Description
This is Shannon Leto of rock band 30 Seconds to Mars. It was done in graphite and carbon pencil on Canson Drawing Paper tha measure 11x14 inches. Though I cropped about an inch off the bottom.I took this with a digital camera in direct sunlight, so I used photoshop to correct the levels and contrast as close as possible to the original. The only thing that seems different than the original are the black parts are just the tiniest bit too dark, and this is more black and white, compared to the yellowish/brown tint all over my drawing from using old drawing paper.but other than that this is very accurate to real life.
This is of course also all freehand. The background was from my own imagination.
This started out with the intention of JUST being a little sketch, my friend Sarah got me a new sketchbook for my birthday and pencils, so I just wanted to try it out, with boredom and interest I extended the sketch out to a little something more.
Umm, time wise...this was over a long period of a few months, working on it here and there. So very rough estimate of...5 hours? give or take.
I had no specific reason for the reference photo I used, considering I had the intention of a quick sketch, I chose something random that I didn't think I wanted to used fore something more serious and planned out. So yes, its an odd photo lol. He kinda looked like he was in the middle of talking.

only thing i noticed that his tatto is missing from his shoulder, but i guess nobody gives a shit about that beacuse the pic is sooooooo fantastic.

Lol, I contemplated putting in the tattoo, I know its a part of him and all, but I thought it would draw the focus too much towards the bottom of the drawing. lol. But I promise the next Shannon drawing will have his tattoos all in full glory. haha.

Youre welcome Sis! yeah you're righ, but i guess it wouldnt draw the focus there or well, not mine, cuz we got used to that tattoo, and the upper part is more interesting

There is a surrealistic vibe here for sure! the lines could be a bit sharper, the shading a bit more defined, and i suppose you could use a bit more contrast in the picture between the black and whites. but really though, those are small complaints, its a fantastic sketch that looks true to life, with a neat abstract look too it!

Thank you for the detailed comment! Yea, I consider myself a messy sort of spontaneous artist sometimes. lol. With this drawing, I don't exactly KNOW what I was going for, but I just kept going on, making it up as i went along, that's how I do a lot of my pieces. I think some of those lines in the background i wanted to keep sketchy though, some stuff in my drawings, believe it or not, is intentional. XD

You did manage to make this look as fantastic here as you did irl. Everything that comes out of your mind, even when based on a photo is fantastic. Though it kinda looks like he's about to sneeze.

I like his expression, but the first thought that went through my brain was: Is he sitting in a bathtub or some other kind of water?
Seems like that, does it? ^^
I personnally love the little stubbles on his chin and the rest of his face. And eye, ear, nose (!) and tatto are amazing as well!
