Because there are not enough New Zealand movies
The Maori illustrated version of "Rapunzel". One day I decided that I wanted to illustrate Disney movies as they would be if they'd been set in early New Zealand. No idea why, but it's fun. There will be more of these
Now I just need to learn how to draw grass skirts and pas... A pa, for the record, is a Maori fortification; if you wander around New Zealand you can see the earthwork foundations left behind from some of them. Based on a piece of concept art published in "The Art of Tangled", only obviously I've swapped their Rapunzel and Eugene with my own
Outlined in pencil, coloured in GIMP.
P.S. for those who don't know: Aotearoa is now the Maori name for New Zealand.

I love this, it's very cool! I have heard that the next Disney princess will be Polynesian (called Moana- meaning ocean), I am hoping that she will be Maori (or anything but Hawaiian- because currently it seems like in the Western world 'Polynesia' consists only Hawaii, and I am hoping to see it's definition broaden in the future!)

I hadn't heard about the new movie before I posted this. I'll be interested to see what they come up with! (I agree, hopefully not Hawaii again. There's a lot more to the Pacific than Hawaii!)

Disney should make a movie about Aotearoa. There are only two Maori-themed movies that I know of - Once Were Warriors and Waitangi - What Really Happened. A Disney movie about Aotearoa would be awesome.

It's a good thing you called it Aotearoa, if you had put Disney New Zealand: Tangled, we'd have expected hobbits and elves

Now I want to do a "If Disney did Lord of the Rings" thing. Sam can be the animal sidekick. Arwen can be the Disney Princess with her own whole range of products...
