‎This little guy was finished ‎December ‎5, ‎2016, and I think it’s pretty obvious who he is based off his name and appearance!

He's a W.D. Gaster x Asgore Dreemurr fankid, which, admittedly, is a total crackship the fandom made up for fun, mostly to give Asgore someone to be with who wasn't Toriel, but honestly? Kingdings (perfect ship name, btw) is a very fun ship, I think! It's always different in all these little ways because everyone has their own idea of who Gaster is, so you can have all these different facets to explore about them together because each one is a little different.

Single dad Gaster and miserable ex-dad Asgore bonding over dadness? You got it! A less nice Gaster burdened by the sins of his past connecting with Asgore, burdened with the sins of a war he never had the heart to go through with? We've got that too! A combination of both, or neither? There's an infinite supply!

Obviously, the Gaster that appears in Kingdings is basically a fan character with little basis in canon, but I actually don't think there's anything wrong with that, honestly!

I feel like people are too harsh on things like that, that fandoms build themselves, and honestly, I can't exactly complain reasonably considering how much common fanon I hate for other fandoms I'm in, but the thing is? I keep all my hate about those things inside, like a normal person, or at most, contained in bitchy rants on my tumblr hidden under readmores where nobody has to look at it!
Sometimes people are just there to have fun, not to write perfect stories, and that's ok! There's nothing wrong with that, damnit! Yes, sometimes it is extremely annoying! But that doesn't mean that they're wrong to do it or to enjoy it!

Plus, if I'm going to be honest, the whole "pair the spares" aspect of it, in this case, actually I think makes it even better and funnier, lmao.

Especially in a universe with Soriel in it. I'm sorry, I just genuinely think that the idea of your ex husband marrying your father in law is inherently amusing. The awkwardness. The vibes. It's perfect because it's so silly, not in spite of it.

Anyway, I didn't really have an official place for this guy on the timeline besides much later than Flamenco and Etta, because it took a while for Gaster to fall back out of the void and even longer for him and Asgore to get their shit together, lmao.

Aster is just a funky little fella, they're just a little guy (though they're they/them, they are still a little guy, in the gender neutral sense), they're an otherworldly being not meant to exist on this plane of dimension, just like their dad, but they're too young to know that yet.

A funny thing about them was that essentially, they weren't born the normal way baby monsters are born, after all, Gaster's not a normal monster and barely qualifies as alive as we know it.

Essentially, Aster sort of just. Congealed out of the weird void goop Gaster is made out of one day when they were discussing the concept of if they would ever have kids (again), and, well, here they are!

Unlike regular monsters, who, much like people, inherit a variety of potential traits from their parents based on factors no one can control, Aster is essentially the platonic ideal of "Kingdings Child". They're made out of a concept taken form, not biology!

It's why they're not actually wearing anything in this picture; they're made out of the idea of what Asgore and Gaster's child would look like, and as such, they came into the world fully formed with clothes and all, the idea of a child, the idea of a Prince (that's why they have a crown), they therefore inherited traits from Asgore and Gaster that shouldn't have been possible to biologically pass down.

To begin to describe their design and how it works; Aster's head Always looks like it's looking at you like this. No one has seen the back of their head. There’s a certain amount of shifting it could do, like placing the earholes more to the side, but this angle fundamentally is their Only angle.

Much like how Mickey Mouse always has his ears facing the same way, despite whatever angle you look at him, everyone who sees them sees Aster as looking towards them at a 3/4ths angle, and yes, it is very disconcerting.

Their ears and tail fluff are just direct Void Goop leaking out of their body, although it never fully detaches from them, so it's more like a constantly refilling ooze than ears or a tail.

Their hands, also, are in fact completely detached from their arms, which are floppy empty sweater sleeves with nothing in them but more goop, if you looked inside.

They can move their arms as well, but at the age they are in this picture (4-5) they haven't fully realized that people prefer it when they move their arms in tandem with their body.

Fun fact, actually! IIRC, while Aster's eyes are green, they're very slightly different shades to one another, because they're specifically a combination of my headcanon colors for Asgore's eyes, and my headcanon for Gaster's eyes, because both of them have orange and blue eyes in my headcanon, but in reverse formation.

Honestly though, I stand by the fact that I think the coolest eye colors for Asgore is orange/blue, entirely because there's canonical basis for that, what with that being the colors his eyes flash in battle to tell you how to dodge one of his attacks.

I know it's entirely possible to headcanon that's just how magic works, and not his actual eye colors, but frankly, I just think it's too cool not to use those.

Ultimately, Aster's main trait is being Extremely Disconcerting and Creepy, but ultimately, they're just a little kid, and they don't mean anything bad by it.

While Asgore and Gaster getting together made everything awkward for the Undertale cast's little family, nobody wants to blame Aster for things they can't control, so the family did their best to welcome Aster with open arms.

Unfortunately, now that Aster's at the age where they're socializing with monsters outside their family, it's hard to ignore that Aster is, uh, pretty friggin' creepy, and this causes friction, as Aster is old enough now to realize that they upset people, but not old enough to realize why, or be able to change their behavior yet.

And of course, part of the problem is how they look, and they can't change that...

Aster is just pure "Baby boy, baby", and I've been excited to share them from the moment that I decided to start releasing old art! Speaking of "baby boy, baby", I wish there was a degendered version of that meme, cause I've tried to use it for Hollow Knight and it also struck me then that there's no real gender neutral word that would work in that place, lol.

Funny thing is, I actually had to choose a gender all over again for Aster; I can't remember if Aster was originally he/him, they/them, or he/they, and while I settled on using they/them for this description, I don’t quite feel right about it, but I'm too lazy to go look it up in my old texts to my friend. I suppose, though, if my gender feelings about them keep going, I could easily just make it so in the future it ends up that they're trans when they get older, just from no gender to boy gender, rather than how it works with people. Who knows!
