‎Finished on July ‎17, ‎2016, this guy was from something I was internally working on myself! A backstory for Undertale's W.D. Gaster!

I actually wrote a lot of stuff for and about that, but to be honest, not all of it was good enough to show here, and I decided this one was actually fun enough to show off, especially because of another element to this. You can of course check my Undertale folder for the parts of Gaster's backstory in my headcanon I actually released, but this guy was fairly extraneous anyway.

He may look somewhat familiar to you based on the fact that he was involved in my backstory for Gaster; he was my interpretation of Gaster Follower #3, the one nobody really could figure out what he was! Of course, now that Deltarune is out, an NPC suspiciously similar to him finally appeared and sort of just blew this whole thing up.

Essentially, the idea was that these guys were, of course, fellow scientists caught in the same accident that left Gaster torn across dimensions, and so, to do that, I had to decide what in the good goddamn fuck #3 even was, because actually, I wasn't comfortable drawing a full human head with no body, because all the versions of it I could come up with were just way too creepy.
Now, of course, he's been retconned into a bird facing the side, but that clearly wasn't the intention originally, given the talking animation for the Follower has him opening his mouth as you'd expect for a giant face, and the Striped Bird opens his mouth where his mouth actually is, IIRC.

So, what I did instead was I made him into a bizarre, goopy creature, his body simply dripping in a way that made him resemble the face, which admittedly was a cheap way of doing it, but I actually find it interesting in its own way. Though this was before I figured out Bézier curves well so I'm just sitting here pointing out all the little errors in the curvature here, lmao.

Dr. Bryan Shelby was just another member of the team, and I don't remember much specifics about him, but I just found the way he's been so thouroughly retconned out of existence a really interesting thing to discuss, honestly, which is why I chose to publish him.
