Description "Out there, way out there, there's a planet we called Garden. Somehow, by the powers that be, it managed to form around a binary star system, with the two just a bit too close to the other. One of them was denser than the other, and started pulling off matter from the lighter one. It doesn't take a particularly advanced society to know that's the making for a nova. Well, these people on Garden - just beautiful creatures, big and majestic... had a language that sounded like whale songs - well, they figured out eventually what was going to happen to their cozy system. Only problem was that Garden was mineral poor; no kind of real technology. Smart creatures, no doubt - just didn't have the resources to get out of there. They tried and tried - started shouting to the heavens for help. Pleading that if any species floating amongst the stars out there had any sort of compassion, they would help.

Here we were, nearly one thousand years after, hearing their radio transmissions finally reach our part of the galaxy. Just listening, hearing these beautiful creatures stare in to the abyss. And then looking at ourselves, on our precarious little basket of eggs. On our lifeboat. Our cradle. For one hundred years we heard these transmissions, watching that gas pile up and up around that little white dwarf. They kept asking if anyone was out there, and there wasn't.

Well, that star went nova. If you look in a telescope now, all you can see is an expanding cloud of gas and vaporized planet. We've got their last few years on memory, and that's all that's left of them.

That, that right there, is why we left Earth. "

Really neat concept! A planet orbiting an unstable binary system.
