Description I'm taking a little break from the really abstract stuff here.

This started as a speed paining of the canyon. I then reworked it a little to add the ship and some figures.

The vague idea here is that this is some sort of smuggler's camp, and perhaps a confrontation is going to develop. But feel free to interpret it any way you like.

(BTW those with sharp eyes may notice I stole some parts for the spaceship from another painting !)

Really like this one . If this isn`t a secret, what brushes do you use ? I`m currently trying to find some simple but useful brush - of course most of work can be done with the basic brushes but sometimes you need more than just that

I do make custom brushes. They're mostly for detail and texture. I have some "sponge" type brushes that I use for rocks and to get the kind of "grainy" look in some areas. I find the best brushes are kind of simple, but then you can gain complexity by adjusting the behavior in the brushes panel - to jitter the size, angle, etc. When I get some settings I like, then I save the brush.

I learned to paint using acrylic and gouache, so I tried to make some brushes that give me a similar feeling to that. They more or less look like a line of dots But when the spacing is very small (like 1%) and the size is set to tablet input - it is quite a bit like using a regular square brush with traditional paint

I'm an art student (studied since 2008 and still have 2 years to go)and i have free week ahead purpose to do nice progress with photoshop and "vandalize" with my new tablet But i`m still learning so i try to find best working settings for myself. Anyway, thank you for your feedback!

I just had to experiment to find a way of working that allowed for a good creative flow - as opposed to struggling with the technology. I think I'm still experimenting

great job Steve, nice atmosphere and I love the narritive mystery behind it. I must say, you're very prolific, you average a new work every 2 or 3 days i'd say. The quality of your work is outstanding for how efficient you are.

Thanks! As far as being prolific, I just try to get a little bit done each day - I guess it adds up...

Also, the pace demanded of my "day job" is good training for - to put it delicately - "blasting the stuff out" !

Ah - "the ropes" is a saying that refers to the rigging of an old style sailing ship. People new to the ship had to "learn the ropes"
