Description I routinely have a few images floating around on my hard drive that I am never satisfied with. I keep tinkering with them a little here, a little there.

I've been fiddling around with this one long enough - so time to post!

(Edit: I made a minor adjustment to the background and re-posted the image)

You are on a level I dream to one day be. Technically, how were the rocks made? Did you use photo as a texture or did you paint it digitally? Its captivating. The ship is by my standards extremely well done. I like the texture and the structure of it.

Thanks very much
This is entirely painted in Photoshop. The rocks were built up from a number of layers. Actually, the ship was too, come to think of it.
I tend to rough things out very quickly, and the painting looks very abstract at that point. Then I start adding details, and this can be time consuming. I work on multiple layers, so I can vary the transparency. For something like the rocks, I use some custom brushes to give them the very granular look.
It's pretty much just a lot of trial and error until the image starts to feel complete. Sometimes the hardest thing is to know when to stop working on something!

You are a really good painter. I like your work. So you rough out a form and then detail it? That sounds like a technique I can start to learn.

You have an appealing style. It would be of great advantage in my short "Asassin".
