Description A3 - staedtler triplus fineliner on paper. This is a work in progress, with the first phase complete - just the background to go, which I hope will ground the image without losing its impact. I wanted to create an abstract expression of fear/terror. It has become a little alien, but still has achieved the effect I was seeking.

Got a decent scan now

This probably isn't going to make me very popular... but I actually prefer this version to the one with the background. The strak contrast between the face and the background makes it really stand out, and it's more powerful. But that's obviously just me

That's cool. I like them both - and I agree the strength of the face does get lost in the background (less so when viewed in real life, but that is something only a few people have the chance to do).

Yep -- it's the eternal struggle with things like this. work at a size that works best in real life, or sacrifice that to get it to fit on a computer screen?

No sacrifices!

I'd make a copy of this and keep this one just as it is.

Yes, in a way, its cheating by copying it, and adding detail to the copy.

But its art, and a copy machine is a tool, just like anything else. It facilitates a variety of possibilities on one theme.

I've used the method since I was a kid -- tracing a form or scene that I liked so that I could color and/or add it many different ways. Of course tracing by hand was a more lengthy process.

You could also scan it, and that way, you can even print it out on canvas that you can purchase for inkjet printers. then, when you draw, you'll have some texture to it.

I love paper's texture. I'm going to start making home made paper soon.

I ramble, but I have a right to. It's 4:30 am and by all rights, I should be asleep.

I am long past any pangs of guilt for copying my own work. It is not cheating. This is what I did with the Obsession series.

If I may ask, what makes it interesting?

It's unique, unlike most of the portraits that you see.
