"You're coming with me, Vendetta. And I have some rules."

Vendetta has never, ever left her house. They live on the far edge of Apploosa, where they can see the town in the far distance. Sometimes kids come to their "witch's hut" and throw rocks at the windows and such. But now... Starlight was telling Vendetta they were going to Ponyville so she can meet Twilight Sparkle. Up until now, Vendetta was sure that Twilight was evil, and now Starlight said she was going to be her pupil. Her mother didn't say it, but she knew this was some kind of punishment. Moondancer was crying when they left, but didn't see them off...and so Vendetta saw the world for the first time. The bustling of Apploosa, the smiles and happy faces... they were scary, unreal. And Starlight validated her fears so that she wouldn't even think of running away. As much as Vendetta feared this new world, she feared Starlight even more.

The rules Starlight set were as followed:
"Do not refer to me as your mother."
"You will respond to Violet until we go home."
"Do not run away or wander off without my permission."
"Do no speak of where you live. But feel free to make your life seems miserable so they sympathize with you more." (Starlight genuinely doesn't think Vendetta's life is terrible, but that her own life is terrible because of Vendetta.)
"Do not talk to strangers until we meet Twilight."
"Do not act out or be strange until we get to Ponyville."
"Do not use magic unannounced. I'll put a spell on you that prohibits you."
"And lastly...do not mess this up for me. Or I will ruin your life."

Vendetta, not even sure why she was on this trip to begin with, complied to all the demands. But she wasn't allowed to bring any personal affects, no Spuddles, no nothing...it was hard not to act out, and hard to understand if what she was seeing was even real. Especially on the train, when she saw the landscape changing, the green trees, the apples, the mountains, the lakes...was all of this really outside of her house just out of reach? Or was this one of her delusions? She wasn't sure anymore... and hid into her mother's side in fear.

When they get to Ponyville, Twilight is minding her own business in her tree. And then she is shocked beyond belief when she sees Starlight has returned with a child. Vendetta is also shocked beyond belief because Starlight says that "I found this lovely filly all in her lonesome while I was traveling here... she says she has no parents or anything... so I thought I should bring her to you, the Princess of Friendship while we figure her situation out."
Vendetta, justifiably scared, takes a step back as this monster Twilight comes forward. Was she being sacrificed? Was she going to tear her to pieces like she did with the cult? Brain control her? Eat her? She felt even more fear when she realized this unicorn had wings, WINGS! She had only read about them in books! And now one was outstretched to her...and wrapped around her as Twilight leaned her head down, fangs at the ready...and whispered:

"It's alright, Violet. We'll find you a home! But you're welcome to stay here at the meantime. In fact, I have a daughter right around your age." She smiled warmly and looked up to Starlight. "Thanks for taking initiative. I'll give her a tour of the place, and you can set yourself back up in your office. Glad to have you back!"

Vendetta just didn't understand. Didn't they hate each other? Didn't Twilight ruin her life? Why were they all buddy buddy? Starlight even smiled and walked away, leaving her with this...this...monster. But... she was so kind, and talked to her in a way her own mother didn't... What was going on?

When Vendetta first meets Spectacle, it's a horrible sight. Vendetta has been controlling herself the best she can until now, but at the sight of a child, she breaks. She had no idea how much she feared children until Twilight introduces the two of them, asking her daughter if it's okay that Violet stays in her room... but Vendetta starts screaming and crying to the shock of everyone in the room. She tries to back out, but backing into Twilight startles her, so she tries to find somewhere to hide in Spectacle's room. Up until now, the only interaction Vendetta had with other children was them screaming and making fun of her from a distance. They were like evil, mocking ghosts, who if they could get through the forcefield, they would tear her limb from limb. And now one of them was through the forcefield, right in front of her.

Spectacle, who is always in her element in her home, is reduced to an anxious and confused state upon the sight of this. Her mother had said there was another filly here, but not that she was...uh...crying and screaming. Did she do something wrong? Twilight tries her best to comfort Violet, but the girl starts hyperventilating and seems to dissociate. Panicked, Twilight tells Spectacle to keep an eye on Violet while she gets Starlight and clears out an area to treat Violet as quickly as possible.

Spectacle stands dumbfounded and frozen, watching this pony cower in fear and struggle to breathe. But she feels she has to do SOMETHING. She cautiously goes over to her bed, and picks up her favorite doll, and nervously approaches Violet who backs up farther into the corner of her room.

"U-Um...I know you're scared, but...i-if you want, you can hold onto my doll, Puddles... d-don't worry about getting, like...um...tears on it, I don't mind...I cry with him all the time too..."

Vendetta sniffles and looks over the doll. It looks suspiciously like Spuddles. There was more than one Spuddles? How was that possible? And this girl wasn't throwing it at her or attacking her or anything? Even though she was a kid? She hesitantly reached out and held onto the doll, unsure of what else to do... and then Spectacle smiled at her. Not an evil conniving smile, but a friendly one. A type of smile she had never seen from a kid. Maybe...they would get along.

Suffice it to say, Twilight saw the situation was mostly handled when she came back with Starlight. Starlight was happy to see Vendetta was already causing grief, but not so happy to see she was happy...

Even worse for Starlight, Spectacle and Violet were getting along swimmingly after that incident. There was so much of the world that Violet didn't know or understand, and Spectacle was practically a walking encyclopedia who marked and noticed every leaf on the side of the road. They would go out and catch critters, eat new foods, do everything that, well, neither of them had ever done before. Spectacle had done these things, but she didn't really have friends...people were too scared to approach her or she was too shy, and they thought she was a cocky know-it-all...but Violet was genuinely interested and mesmerized by what she had to say. Violet, obviously, having never left her house in all her life except maybe once or twice thanks to Moondancer, was glad to have such a friendly guide.

Starlight noticed this blossoming friendship, and resented it. How was it that her daughter was being so well behaved, so friendly, and not struggling as much as she had hoped? Vendetta still clearly struggled socially, and could never look anyone in the eyes when she talked to them, but she still persisted. Why? She was totally out of her element. She should be freaking out and trying to eat things she shouldn't by now, drawing on the walls... but when she did draw on the walls, Spectacle drew with her. When she went into a dissociative state, they weren't scared or disgusted...Twilight comforted her even though it was helpless. She was never going to stop being the way she was, there was no point in these little mental bandages that wouldn't heal the wound...but they never tried to heal the wound or apprehend her behavior. Starlight didn't understand it...

But it wouldn't matter for much longer. Yes, she promised Moodancer that she would bring Vendetta back...but not Violet.
