Description This is the same spider, just different angles combined into one. The smaller was a tad blurry but the position of its legs was nice so I shrunk it and pasted it onto a nicer photograph.

My dad who is a scientist said this is in fact a Wolf Spider.

A Wolf Spider you say? I have never heard of those before, where are they in the world?

This one was in Amarillo, Texas, in the USA. It's a semi-arid region with cold winters and hot summers.

It was about 5.6cm

At first glance, I thought this was a Brown Recluse. Either way, still a beautiful and fascinating creature

Great shot! Nice to finally know what these guys are. I've found 3 in the last week down in my room all around 2 inches. I catch them in a glass and throw them outside but fear being bittin at night.

Nice shot. "Wolf spiders" is a generic term that includes a number of spider species with rather similar features, I think (among them, large front eyes -which provide the spider with an excellent sight at night- and a specific colouring pattern). The first wolf spider I can think of when I see this is the Lycosa tarentula (or just tarantula; a common name wrongly applied to those large, hairy tropical spiders -called mygales- apperaring in terror movies...)
The range of sizes covered by "wolf spiders" goes from the tiny Pardosas to the large Lycosas, I think; all looking pretty alike in general.

I wouldn't be too hasty in calling it a wolf spider unless it was larger than 3/4 inch and very fast moving. Wolf spiders have a look-alike to their juvenile forms called Hobo Spiders who have a very serious bite. They look nearly identical to this. They can have several different markings I caught one last night and I would have sworn to you it was a young wolf spider, when in fact on closer inspection it was moving very slowly with a slow reaction time and was not nearly as aggressive. I've owned wolf spiders of all sizes and have observed their habits for years. Really it's hard to distinguish the two spiders and it can be one horrible mistake if you do.

All right then, definitely a wolf spider. Good thing too, hobo spiders will land you in the hospital.

I'd like to model a wire sculpture after your pic, may I?
If I did so, would I have to send you a copy?
I read your Terms of agreement, but nothing addresses 3-D art.

Ugh, we get these bastards up in MA. Horrifying. Spider bites are awful, even if they aren't from a deadly or dangerous spider they still hurt like a bitch.
