Description I decided a while ago that I'd write and illustrate a story book for practice - just as a way to force myself to draw the same characters and different scenes. I've been calling it Rocket Dog in my head but that name already belongs to an existing character.

I'm not sure this picture is even part of the story. It was inspired by 's Cribs contest which made me think of what sort of bedroom the boy would have (he doesn't really have a name since I've been thinking of the story from the dogs' point of view and he just thinks of him as 'his boy')

Since the dog doesn't really have an interesting room of his own I decided to draw this one, hopefully it still counts well enough for the contest.

I have never drawn something so detailed linelessly and it took me forever but I'm really proud of it.

This is a great picture! You are so talented - I wish I had done this. Where did you get your inspiration? What techniques do you use?

Also, style-in-art.deviantart.com/ is a great group to watch if you want inspiration.

Thank you so much! That's a wonderful compliment.
In terms of inspiration: The inspiration for the story itself came from another picture I drew called 'Rocket Dog' where the artist's comments were 'he's an explorer.' stormwhiskers.deviantart.com/a… The original picture was just a scribble with no real meaning behind it but I ended up thinking about it a lot and
decided that I wanted to tell a story about a dog who lives on Earth as a pet but is also a space explorer. Then I just spent a few weeks trying to come up with a story based on that.
For art inspiration my biggest influences and inspirations are Pascal Campion, EliOli, and the TV show Jamie's Got Tentacles.
For techniques, I block out everything on separate layers and do all of the details and colour matching like that before flattening them into one layer and adding more lighting and shading on overlay and luminescence modes. Most of my techniques are based on these tutorials (just click on them to make them bigger) elioli-art.tumblr.com/post/448…

Thanks Syed! I really love this style too and I'm working up to using it more. The only problem is that it takes about three times longer than my other style to draw and I need to work up the motivation to do something so time consuming. Since I know people like it though, I'll definitely try to make more.

You are welcome.
I think the time spent on that will be worth it.
Looking forward to more of this type of works!
