Description ...At Byron Bay, the easternmost point in Australia. From just below this point I watched dolphins swimming in the bow waves of the migrating whales. It's a cool place, and this is one of my favourite photos from the Australian leg of my travels.

I guess this is the first of my Oz photos - there are more to come, rest assured...

Nikon D70s / mono conversion, contrast and border in Photoshop. Enjoy.

This is one of my favourite places too. Byron is an amazing place to be... if you can get past all the tourists and hang out with some of the colourful locals.

Love this shot

Thank you.

I didn't get to spend much time with the locals, but I did avoid where possible the hordes of tourists. I'm not that much of a hordes-of-tourists person, hah. And I did find a lot more to enjoy than ten pints of VB

the composition is nice, but what really makes this picture pop out from your gallery is the great conversion: maximal dynamic range and contrast got added in process!

Thank you for the kind and constructive comment. I'll go back and look at what I did to this shot in order to try and make my other b/w shots more punchy and effective!

I don't remember if I said 'thank you' already for this, but just in case I didn't - thank you very much. It's an honour.

this picture makes it seem like a really lonely lighthouse...^^

strangelight In reply to alchemistprincess [2007-10-01 19:07:59 +0000 UTC]

It's not, really. It's a busy spot because it's good for whale-watching, has some nice views, and because it's the easternmost point and there are always people who like to take pictures of boring things like that...

alchemistprincess In reply to strangelight [2007-10-02 02:55:54 +0000 UTC]

but i like the boring things like that, give it another side of personality that ppl wouldnt have thought of before....

Yeah, and it's nice that people are getting the exercise to go up to the lighthouse. I actually had to wait for quite a while to ensure that there was no-one on the steps...

must have been a long wait, if that site is so popular....

Well fortunately it was pretty much the end of the summer, so it was dying down - but yeah, long enough to annoy the people I was with

alchemistprincess In reply to strangelight [2007-10-02 17:41:48 +0000 UTC]

yeah, doesnt it get colder down there when summer's over? not as much fun going to watch whales in the fall......but fall has a nice hue in the sky duing a horizon......

strangelight In reply to alchemistprincess [2007-10-16 17:37:33 +0000 UTC]

It does get colder, yeah, but nothing like the northern parts of Europe or the USA - probably just 15 centigrade or so instead of 30 or 40...

alchemistprincess In reply to strangelight [2007-10-16 18:00:56 +0000 UTC]

i don't know Centigrade, just Farenheight....^^
