Description Here's another commission I did back in March, for a young lady named Kristin who really digs Doctor Who-- I portrayed her in a rose-colored version of one of the gowns that Sophia Myles wore as Madame Pompadour in the classic New Who episode, "The Girl in the Fireplace."

She's also holding a couple of marimba mallets, since that's her instrument, as well as a book, since she likes to write. And those are her two cats, M and Q. It was a birthday present-- and I'm happy to report she really likes how the portrait turned out. Huzzah!

I presume you use coloured pencils on your art. What type/brand do you use if you don't mind me asking? I've always admired your drawings and the beautiful colours

Sorry for the late response... but it's Old Holland. Best. Acrylic. Brand. EVER. (Golden, Sennelier, and W&N are also great.) But I have a special love for OH. You can buy it online at Blick, if there's no stores carrying the paint in your area.Β

She looks so pretty! And the way you portrays things in her hands is exactly the way Baroque/Rococo painters did in those aristocrat portraits, that's lovely!

I only wonder, did they use marimbas yet?
Either way, very cute and very well done. I like how you use color.

Thanks!

Dr. Google tells me that modern marimbas originated in Central America in the late 19th century, so yeah, they wouldn't have known what they were in Louis XV's court. But then, the hair isn't period either... oh well.
