Description Everything's better with princesses! Except probably not with these three. Here's the eldest daughters of George II- Anne, Amelia and Caroline (called Caro). They're the sisters of Prince Frederick, and will be in the 1729-1730 London project (mentioned here- [link] ).

Anne, on the left, was the eldest girl, the Princess Royal, and she was incredibly imperious and haughty and something of a bluestocking. Amelia, in the center, was a character- she liked over-the-top colors, and once ordered a dress of orange velvet and purple ribbons. She was backstabbing, gossipy and uber-bitchy, and even though she was technically supposed to be a nice unmarried virgin, she would disappear for days at a time with her married aristocratic lover (when they were supposed to be "hunting"). Caro on the left was a timid girl who was always trying to please everyone. As different as they all were, though, they all hated Frederick, and he wasn't too fond of them either!

Your knowledge of period dresses is displayed well through this piece. I love your sketching style as well. Looking closely this fairly sketchy, however it still has the feel of a fully completed piece because your composition is so wonderful. Definitely a pleasant picture to look at. <3

Wow this is amazing I wish when I drew people they turned out even a tiny bit like this - I love the way your fabric folds and you've captured the look of the period just right I think definitly a fave

My favorite is Amelia, love her expression.

I have seen a couple of Deviants have colored them, can I too?

Don't forget Caro is a brunette, and Anne and Amelia are blonds. Anne is both wearing a lace cap and a veil on her hair- like the ladies in this picture- [link] - and Caro is just wearing a cap. Hope that helps, and I hope you have fun!

Oh good! Glad I caught you in time. Here's another reference pic. It has the three sisters:

Caro's in blue playing the guitar, Anne's in white on the harpsichord, and Amelia is on the right looking bored.

My favourite is the one in the middle. I like her dress the most. You know me, I'm such a sucker for tiny little details. haha

Thanks! Have you thought of drawing some early 18th century characters? I'd love to see it!

Alwisw In reply to suburbanbeatnik [2009-01-25 22:32:45 +0000 UTC]

Oh I've thought of drawing so many things and so many fashion styles I don't know if I'll ever have the time to actually do so. haha
I'm still working on that early 17th dress though, but the first one I had to get rid of since it looked absolutely awful. >_o

So many ideas, and so little time... I definitely know the feeling. That's really cool that you're working on an early 17th century dress though.

Alwisw In reply to suburbanbeatnik [2009-01-28 21:20:30 +0000 UTC]

Yes it's unfortunate. But I draw as much as I possibly can, and lately I seem to have improved a little bit. That always feels rewarding.

i love it

I've recently started reading about Queen Victoria, and it's facinating. I know some people think she's a bit dull, and for a little while she is, but when you look at her past, it's like, well duh..
Anyway, back to these. I love the detail of the dresses!!!

suburbanbeatnik In reply to DarthMalice66 [2009-01-19 09:29:30 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

Yes, Victoria's bourgeois personality is totally understandable when you see what an absurd circus her family was like. The Prince Regent and his brothers were so awful and narcissitic, they make George II and his family look bearable.

Speaking of which, have you seen the trailer for "The Young Victoria"? It looks amazing!

DarthMalice66 In reply to suburbanbeatnik [2009-01-20 15:38:54 +0000 UTC]

No I haven't. I'll have to go search you-tube for it!

I know. They didn't even train her to become queen, they gave her music lessons and drawing lessons. If it weren't for Lord Melbourne she would have been an aweful Queen.

suburbanbeatnik In reply to DarthMalice66 [2009-01-25 09:15:11 +0000 UTC]

She was pretty lucky. Things could have ended pretty disastrously for her, like Isabella II of Spain.

Have you seen the trailer yet? [link] It looks so gorgeous!

DarthMalice66 In reply to suburbanbeatnik [2009-01-25 13:07:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. If it weren't for Melbourne she would have been in big trouble. However I think she became a little over-dependent on him towards the end. I mean she threw such a fit when he left that he came back for another short stint.
Same with Albert, so much so that it actually made him ill towards the mid 1850's.

Yeah, Victoria is cool. As queen regnants go, I feel I can relate to her more than Elizabeth I.

DarthMalice66 In reply to suburbanbeatnik [2009-01-27 05:17:47 +0000 UTC]

Me too! Like I understand the hype about Queen Elizabeth I, but for some reason I find myself drawn to Victoria more. I think it's because I always have a soft spot for people who have rough lives, are used/underappreciated.
Victoria's childhood, her mother, and that John Conway guy, used her to try and get money. Luckily King William IV lived long enough for Victoria to turn 18 where she no longer needed a regent, and then she shut them off, but still.
