Description This is a somewhat comic portrait of Marie Antoinette in shepherdess mode, complete with big 1780s hat and lots of decolletage. I did this for a friend who is an obsessed Antoinette-ist (if that's a word), and made sure to make her as floofy and buxom as he desired. She was actually a 40 DD, I believe...

I don't think I've looked through your gallery carefully before, because I hadn't seen this before! It's gorgeous! I love the colors and... and... and everything! The hat is so big and fluffy! Almost like a sheep in itself. haha

Thanks! Well, I'm a children's book illustrator, so that no doubt explains the kids' book feel of my work.

I always did find the whole 'milkmaid/shepardess' queen thing kinda surreal, I love how you've captured the colours of the era, and the detail of the clothing.

p.s i'm an 'Antoinette-ist' too! I think it has something to do with the hair......

Thanks! Although I'm sure I could do much better now... this painting was done way back in '04. But I'm kind of Marie Antoinette'd out right now, to be honest.

I love the huge plumes on her head. It's a very good caricacture of Marie Antoinette. She looks so smug.

Her and Louis XVI's story are interesting to me.. so tragic.

Thanks!

I did this in 2004, I think, and what interest I had in Antoinette has decreased dramatically since the release of the S. Coppola movie. I pulled this out of my files at the behest of some friends who are still REALLY into her, since I figured they'd get a kick out of this being on dA.

Probably my favorite part of the painting is the sheep.

Hey, how can Marie Antoinette ever be too pretty? You don't fancy her big Hapsburg chin? Hehe...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RedPassion In reply to suburbanbeatnik [2007-02-23 01:18:37 +0000 UTC]

Well...cause she was in my opinion...just ugly in real with this face sry....as a princess ok, there she was "pretty"...or rather nice...but really beautiful was e.g Maria LeszczyΕ„ska..wife of Louis XV. Or Maria Josepha Carolina of Sachsen...mother of Louis XVI. (my darling. ) And no i do not. That is the wrong family for me...i had send her back to austria!!! Directly!!!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

suburbanbeatnik In reply to RedPassion [2007-02-23 13:57:59 +0000 UTC]

No worries, the Hapsburgs are definitely an acquired taste. I can't say I've acquired it myself- I'm more of a Stuart fan, frankly. MA is interesting visually, and I feel sorry for her, but she's kind of annoying.

So, you're a Louis fangirl? Aww, that's cute! I've never met one before... nice to meet you!

RedPassion In reply to suburbanbeatnik [2007-03-01 14:29:42 +0000 UTC]

Ok
Well...no i feel for her nothing.....for me is MA the last!! Sry. But the apology she was to young etc. is not a reason for me and for doing...-.-

Jaaa...*smile* *___* IΒ΄m THE Louis Fan!! hehe...lol...its my pleasure dear.

IΒ΄m very sorry for my soooo bad english...*sigh*

Marie Antoinette Did Not And STILL Dose Not Deserve The Hate That She Get's. Do You Know HOW Much Shit She Had To Deal With? A LOT: Her Own People Talked Shit About Her All The Time And Even Drew Pornographic "Satire" (This Is The QUEEN We Are Talking About) And In The Revolution Her Home Was Invaded,She And Her Family (Even The Children) Were "Arrested",Locked Up,Her Best Friend Was Beaten,Raped,Killed And Had Her Head Put On A Pike In Front Of Where They Kept The Queen Locked Up So She Could See It And Then Proceeded To Kill Her,Her Husband And Her Children (And She Died With The SO Much Grace,It's Insane)-And Even AFTER Her Death,The Filthy Rift-Raft Continued To Do HORRIBLE Things. Now,CouldΒ Marie Antoinette Have Handled Being Queen Better? Sure. But She Was More BLIND To What Was Happening Then IGNORING It And The French Were NOT Heroes And It Was'int Even About The Lack Of Food-It Was About Her Being A Woman In Power And Not Being French. Trust Me-There Have Been FAR Worse Queen's Before Her And If She Had WANTED To,She Could Have Been Beheading People On A Daily Bases And The King (Who Was Pretty Much Useless) Would'int Have Done Much To Stop Her-But She Did'int. She Just Wanted To Enjoy Being Queen And Was Trying To Get Though All The Nonsense (There Was One Time When Her Friends Had Her Standing Naked As They Argued Over What Servant Should Be The One To Dress Her-So She Said Fuck It And Decided To Dress Herself-Hence How She Became The Original Lady Gaga) As WELL As All The Shit She Had To Take From Her Own People.Β Marie Antoinette Is NOT The Bad Guy Of The Revolution-The French Are And They Only Make It Worse By Pretending They Never Did A Damn Thing Wrong In The Process When In Reality They Did Worse Things Then The Queen EVER Did.

Hi Joanne -

This portrait of Marie Antoinette is just so wonderful. You really give us the image of the buxom Queen as she looked in the 1780s and pretty freshfaced too.

I love the sheep nibbling on her expensive faux peasant costume - you are sooooo funny!!

*LMAO*

Now if i can only induce you to draw Marie Antoinette again - the Queen sitting regally with her big hat and plumes at Versailles. Perhaps with toady king Louie at her side.

In admiration,
Axel
