God. This is amazing for photoshop. I don't prefer realism too much but your technique in photoshop I something I would love to have. Colored pencil drawing can only go so far for me right now.

How do proportion your characters' hight? I have trouble where my character's legs are too long compared to the upper body.

I didn't think about it too much. I just looked at the sketch and made a few adjustments here and there to make sure his head wasn't too big or small.
