Stick rail is just another term for jointed rail (seen here). Welded rail is more common today as it's heavier, and tends not to wear out as fast.

This was photographed in New York... but jerseys border is only 5 minutes away.

Aside from that, you'd be surprised how much stick rail remains in New Jersey. With all the subdivisions, secondaries, running tracks and spurs that used to be main lines and branches for the slew of railroads that ran into the New York market, they left behind on hell of a lot of stick rail. There is only a fraction of main track left in New Jersey compared to 40 years ago.
