Description (Pictured: mstex to the left, the native Win+X menu to the right)

Update. Took DeathShot's advice from Facebook, removed the numberics, and labeled what command prompt is the admin one, also, updated the code as to remove 12 lines of now dead code... with 4 lines to fix it, and to do better. I love making progress

Thanks go to for the suggestion. Thanks!

So while I am sure that I am not the first to find the Windows 8 WinX (AKA Win + X hotkey menu) menu, I have added the option for it to show in the "folders" button (if you are in Windows 8) as a mstex menu.

However, i am giving thought to implementing it as Windows 8 has, and making it available to Windows XP, Vista and 7.

I mean, it is just .lnk files. All i need is peoples to send me .lnk files for XP, Vista and 7.

You see, before i made this find, I implemented my own version of it, and it pretty much not only had the kitchen sink, but also the neighbor's kitchen sink... Pretty much everything i could squeeze in it.

So, should I leave mine, and not use the WinX menu, or should i get .lnk files from XP, Vista, and 7, and implement it across the board for ALL of the OSes?

Why are the left side of the icons getting cut off on yours? Also those programs have higher resolution icons available but you are showing the low res crappy ones?

You should add 1 or 2 pixel padding between the items vertically, it looks pretty cluttered having them all stacked like that.

You might also want to think about reducing the size of each menu entry, it seems kinda big to me (occupy lots of screen real estate) which is what everyone seems to hate about Metro start menu.

I like your icons down the bottom but I don't think they need that square border around them, can probably remove that.

well, the size of the AppTabs is 54 pixels, the icons shown are higher pixel count than that, and the math that shows and places them has to slightly left-adjust for it. All of the icons have padding around the but the higher (64) bit ones, due to, obviously, 64 pixels is higher than 54 pixels, so some cropping will happen.

Also, currently for .Net, there IS not way to get the higher res icons. Or no way that i have found.

As said above, 54 pixels for the AppTabs is decent. Only lower res users will have an issue, like, 800x600. And no one uses that any more, so why support it?

The whole reason for this app is to have a Metro Start Screen - like start menu, while still being a desktop app. You are the first i have had to argue with the size of the app tabs, out of the currently hundreds (400+) of downloads the app has seen through it's iterations.

However, the idea of sizing is interesting, i will see if i can (and i can do it...) modify the code to allow per skin for the designer to set apptab and tile size upon generation.

also, all graphics can be changed with a skin. I hope that when this is released that you design one!

Winx Club (short Winx/WinX) series are probably more recognizable in Europe (being an Italian production) that's why You might feel confused.
