Description
I got challenged to paint Thranduil by Dreasama [link]So here he is still young and in Greenwood the Great which later turned into Mirkwood.
In the Hobbit it is said that "he wears a crown of flowers on his golden head in the spring, and a crown of berries in the autumn." However i was afraid he would look like a ten year old girl if I included any of those

you did a wonderful job on this piece however the hand is a bit off. all fingers are equal in lenght which in fact, is of course, unnatural. but omg... the colors

Well, you're going to like what I did over the weekend then. I reall ymanaged to get Mirkwood all mirky in another piece. However the foreground aint as pretty in that.
You're right about the hand, but I liked the rest, in particular the hair to much not to post it.

that's right ^^ besides you learn alot by making small mistakes in your pictures and noticing them yourself.

I shall try to beat it into the computer later. However the foreground is a major drawback of the new piece. Ack... it is a straight couple kissing! I promised to paint one of those... but it wasn't half as much fun as my usual stuff.

Keep trying eventually you will succeed. There is a reason I only show recent work here... my first attempts at portray weren't stellar either.

Give it another few years, I'm borderline hyperactive in real live as well, yet for painting I find patience bejond reason. I've only been doing watercolours since I was 17 or so, before that I used crayons exclusivly!

love the expression and the colours..the only things i have to say is that i only have the impression that he's too"rigid"but is only my impression.. i know how difficult could be paint "people"..especially when they are fantastic people..!
but it s still a great work..!!

I totally agree with you on that. But watercolour is a one way shot. Either a pose works of it does not, there is no way of changing it halfway through the painting, unlike in oilpaintings.

nice!~i like the simple skin tones,it looks more fairer,and the bg works well too~the onli tin i want to crit is the elf could have use abit more shades,such as under the arm,and the area within the cape,and the bg could be toned down,to emphasize Thranduil too,otherwise he looks great~and u mention bout the crown?wel u can make it look more tight,instead of loose flowers,...kip it up!

I must admit that Morgoth commeting on anything middle earth scared me a bit at frist
this wreath is a lost cuase because watercolours are one way shots, you can't change much on a finished piece of work. However I'll certainly keep it in mind for the next one.
