IMHO The best way to portray nudes is simply and in real surroundings. Outdoor shots in full color really captures the brilliance and beauty of the female form.
The "artzy fartzy" crowd may like cryptic portrayals of nudes like this you present, but real people wll never like it, nor understand it. This is no better than porn. The model is degraded into an object to be be looked at. Period. There is no passion. I see no emotion. I see no power, no beauty, no confidance, no pride, no joy, no celebration, no identity, no humanity, in this photo. It has no meaning. It does not inspire. It does not celebrate the total beauty of the human (and female) form. She is reduced to a mere canvass for the play of light and shadow. Even the colors of her skin are not noticed. There really isn't anything to understand.
The mistake is doing the same thing with a subject similar to other examples that circulate in the fine arts community, Art is the selective recreation of reality and cannot be removed from the context of reality. The artist selects what he/she wants to emphasize. That emphasis will have no meaning if taken out of context. The style of this piece has no context. It's bare; one dimensional. No one in the real 3d world will ever see it. It needs a complimentary context, a background, setting, sunlight, a normal worldly action, a plot, tension, anything that real people can relate to.
I know this from my work in the theatre. On stage an actor can sense wether or not an audience can relate to his performance. Such an audience allows themselves to believe what they are watching is real (at least until the final curtain).
One can learn the techniques of art with practice which singles out one technical skill with pieces like this. But, it's not art. Art comes only once one passionately understands why he/she strives to creates art.

Wow. The lighting is spectacular. The intense highlights are a superb contrast to the soft shadows. I especially like how both the highlights and the shadows bring out the contours of her form - especially her arms and her breast.
