5th in my series of young finnish men, i look for the essence of finnishness in them.---
this is Hermanni, a guy from my school. i don't know him that well, but ever since i saw a small snapshot of him in a magazine a year ago i realized how photogenic he is. what's always intrigued me is his rather positive attitude, he seems very relaxed and outgoing, and those are not very finnish qualities. his finnishness would come out as honesty and general straighforward attitude, along with a critical view on things. he's 26 now, and besides collecting all kinds of older stuff from the flea markets he draws fantasy type of stuff.

Hah His hair is so finnish.
I like how you capture how he sits, his posture without distracting from his facial expression. The facial expression this guys got on could be interrperuted so many ways... I take him for a funny (positivity?) questioning type of person.

I love this! you know why? because you did an excellent job at capturing his essence and i'm glad you know that you did! This photo is so "real" I can feel the intensity from his eyes. He is pretty attractive too...he kinda has a "sooo...what's up?" look on his face. great job!

i have to cringe at the facial hair...because i find it a deplorable trait in all men...however he has the purdiest eyes i've ever seen...can i kidnap him and like...rape him?

I like the shot,o very class lighting that works.
and he IS veyr photogenic.
You also have the whole superkev "head and hands cutting off" thing going on, which I think still works.
You have this gift for photographing guys and making them look unbeleivably hot while they still look real, or is that something about finnish man? I have to ponder that for a while.

I think the hairlight/kicker might be a little bit hot, and there really arent any catchlights in his eyes, which is generally considered a must for portrait work (by traditionalists anyways). Other than that, very nice, very soft lighting.

I would like this better if he was a little more upright or the cropping was a little more to the left, and the head not cut off, but besides that, great contrast and lighting.

he definitely looks scandinavian from the facial structure...
the look he has is interesting. straightforward, honest, nice guy, but if you screw with one of his friends, his darker side comes out and God help whomever is on the receiving end.

hmmm... well i haven't seen the other 4... don't know why they didn't appear in my message box... anyways...
so, i don't understand what makes a person 'more finnish' than another (other than being born there)... i don't see people as being this or that, i see them as being people... anyways, i'm saying this now mostly because... erm... well i've always believed that... but i'm saying this at this particular moment because i really don't know what "essence of finnishness" is... perhaps i'm blind... or maybe i just see so many different types of people on a daily basis that i've become desensitized to it... meh... it's a good mug except not so much a mug as a full photo meh... i make no sense right now... hmm... perhaps because i'm a guy i may be missing something in this shot... perhaps only women and gay men can see this one piece of the photo that i seem to be missing completely... as a photo though it's good, i like it... i agree with the use of black and white... ok, i'll stop now, i'm blathering...

is this guy diabetic? or is his bracelet just decorative?
i don't know what kind of 'device' they use in finland, but in canada if your diabetic or have a medical condition that needs to be known in case of some sort of emergency, you have to wear a braclet like that one that has info on you and the condition... it also has a medical insignia on it... just curious
