Description
Mikazu Miku, the leader of the Arashi clan worked inside his lab within his own home.
He was rather preoccupied working on the small but complex machine before him, he had just recently found a way to increase the power in the village’s electricity, this way they’d have more functioning lights for a longer time before the current machine overheated from use and reset itself…
Well, that’s what he thought would happen… Guess no one knows until they try, he thought, sighing as he leant back against his chair for a moment, running a hand down his face.
He had been working on this nonstop for several days now, only exiting his lab to eat and sleep. Waking up early in the morning and heading to sleep late at night.
He closed his eyes for a moment, this short moment of tranquility allowing him to rest for the slightest moment, taking in the silence…
Knock knock knock!
The fox let out a sigh, pushing himself up from his seat to open the door.
“Ye-?”
He was interrupted however as a much smaller figure suddenly ran into the room, giggling.
Mikazu blinked as he watched his young son run around, watching as his wife also walked into the room holding a purple blanket and several of their sons toys, setting them into a corner of the room without a word.
“Ada, what are you-”
“I’m heading out to meet with Bea, so I’m leaving Kitzu with you”
Mikazu blinked, ears pinning back against his head in irritation, “Ada, I am busy, can’t you take him with you?”
Ada stared back at him, crossing her arms, “No, Mika.” She stated, before sighing, “Mika, how much time has passed since you’ve been with your son? You barely even see him nowadays since you’re always cooped up in here… Is this really what you want to be for our son? Some sort of ghost?”
The older fox then sighed, turning his gaze downwards since he knew that to be true. He barely saw Kitzu or Ada nowadays with the exception of lunchtime, and usually he was always thinking about his experiments even then. He knew he needed to stop…
“You’re right…” he murmured, sighing, “Fine, go ahead and leave the boy with me”
“Great~” His wife cheered, walking over and giving his cheek a kiss, “I’ll return in a couple hours, keep an eye on him”
And with that she left, leaving the two males on their own
Mikazu then turned to glance at the boy, who was currently taking a close look around the lab; he wasn’t usually allowed to enter this room after all.
He then glanced back towards his work. He knew what he just said, but he was so close to finishing, he was sure-
It would only be a couple more minutes…
He walked over towards the boy, taking his hand and leading him over towards the blanket and toys his wife had set down.
“Kitzu, I still need to work on a couple things. Can you stay here and play silently?” he said quietly, the boy eyeing him for a couple moments before frowning slightly and giving a slight nod, “Ok…” he murmured, voice lacing with disappointment.
Mika gave the boy’s head a pat and head back to his desk, trying to ignore the feeling of guilt that had set within him by working on his project.
Kitzu sighed, taking a couple of his toys and began to play around silently as told, though was soon distracted as he watched his father work from a distance.
He always wondered what he did in here; he almost never came into his father’s room because he said it was dangerous for him to be around, so now that he was here he felt a strong sense of curiosity.
He began to slowly walk up to the desk, climbing onto a stool to watch as his father worked on some weird machine thing he could only hope to understand when he’d grow older.
Mikazu blinked a bit as he saw the boy approach and watch curiously, but said nothing, as long as he was being silent and behaving himself all was fine.
He continued to work in silence, the boy’s ears perking up with curiosity as he watched, so much he was beginning to ask questions.
“And what’s that for?” Kitzu first asked, Mikazu answering without even looking up from his project.
“It’s to make the electricity work better around here, this way we’ll have better lights and for a longer time” he explained, hoping he did so in a way the young child would understand.
“And this?” The boy asked again with intrigue, picking up a wrench that was set nearby
“It’s a tool, it’s called a wrench” he replied simply once more and with no real intention on trying to explain to his four year old the uses of a wrench, setting down the current piece of his machine to look at his notes.
“And this??” Kitzu asked again, now taking the rather delicate and complex piece that was just set down by his father in a rather rough manner, causing his father to glance back in surprise, suddenly acting and quickly taking the item away from him, giving the child’s hand a smack as he did so.
“Hey, no! No touching-“ The man scolded, causing the child to glance up at him in surprise before turning his gaze downwards and falling silent once more, looking much like a kicked puppy as he sadly murmured a small apology.
The man’s gaze softened at this, sighing as he reached out to rub the boy’s head
“Forgive me, my son…” he spoke gently, “It’s just that this here is really delicate and the way you took it right now was rather rough, you could’ve damaged it and if that happened I’d have to start all over again.” He explained.
Kitzu turned to glance up at him, eyes widening slightly, “And then you’d have to stay here for a longer time right?” he asked quietly, not letting him respond as he spoke again, “I’m sorry… I won’t touch it…”
The older fox blinked and frowned a bit at that response, “What is it? You don’t want me in here?”
The child shook his head, “You’re always in here now and workin’ on stuff…” he spoke, “Neither I or mum gets to see you and when we do, you’re just quiet and tired…” Kitzu spoke quietly, causing Mika’s expression to fall as guilt began to bite at him again, reaching out for the boy and bringing him into a hug.
“I’m sorry Kitzu… I didn’t think you two would mind…” he murmured, watching as the boy nodded.
There was a minute of silence as he thought, before finally speaking “Tell you what, I’ll stop working for today and continue some other time. For now we can do anything you’d like” he offered, grinning slightly as he saw the boy’s eyes light up, setting him down as he ran over to his toys, both settling down on the blanket that was laid out.
The boy eventually resulted in coloring, the two joking around with that for a couple hours, losing track of time until Ada arrived back home again.
“I bet I can color faster-er than you pa!” Kitzu chirped happily, grinning widely, scribbling on his paper
“Oh really?~ Wanna bet?” Mika joked
“I bet, um… I bet this crayon that I can color faster-er!”
“No, no, no- The bet is with Ka-ching or nothing my boy!” the older fox laughed.
“Well, well, well. What do we have here?~ I come home finding my husband and four year old gambling over crayons” Ada spoke as she walked into the room, raising a brow at the two and grinning.
Kitzu smiled widely at the sight of his mother, trotting up to her to hug her, Mika standing and clearing his throat a bit, a bit embarrassed at being caught joking around, though walked up to her and gave her a kiss, ignoring the look of disgust on their son’s face.
“Well~ I see you two got along fairly well after all” Ada spoke, beginning to lead them over to the kitchen for lunch. “You going to continue working afterwards?” she asked Mikazu, who shook his head in denial. “No. I’ve finished working for today, right now I’m going to spend the rest of the day with you two”
Ada smiled wider, “I see Kitzu could finally get through you huh?~”
The older fox shook his head, “I suppose. Family comes first, right Kitzu?” he asked, the boy’s head nodding up and down happily.
“Family comes first…”
