Skin it with a giant cheese graphic and it would make a good cheese advertising car!

Why couldn't you buy a normal car?  Is this all you can afford?  I knew my daughter should have married that rich doctor instead of you.  If this thing runs out of charge don't expect me to get out and push.  I bet this thing breaks down in the worst part of town too.

There used to be one of these around here too. When I went back to try to buy it about a year later- it was gone.

It sort of reminds me of the British Invacar en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invacar but that may be as much the colour as anything else.

One must have been somehow masochistic to drive on public roads something like that - after all, it's just a golf cart with a fiberglass body inspired by the 1970s British Bond Bug three-wheeled car...

To be fair it was designed to be a city commuter.  With a top speed of 30-50 MPH (depending on year and model) and a range of only forty miles, no one was taking this out on a freeway.

HermanEks In reply to SwiftysGarage [2016-04-06 08:36:00 +0000 UTC]

Of course nobody did! 😃
But I was referring to city streets and thinking about the lack of comfort and safety - crashes also happen in towns... 😢
Btw, you have some nice photos here. 😉

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

SwiftysGarage In reply to HermanEks [2016-04-08 03:23:01 +0000 UTC]

This is also true.  Thankfully in-town accidents (theoretically) should be lower speed collisions and less likely to inflict major injuries even with a microcar like this.

And thank you very much!

HermanEks In reply to SwiftysGarage [2016-04-09 00:19:37 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome!

Yeah, ”theoretically” - as long as you're not hit by a 10 ton truck going 30 mph...   Or by a falling bough. i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s…

But enough about the ”crash theories”! It seems that we're both scale model car collectors - are you interested only in 1/64 diecasts or...? (I collect mainly 1/43 and 1/87 scale diecast, resin or plastic models, but not exclusively.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SwiftysGarage In reply to HermanEks [2016-04-09 14:54:37 +0000 UTC]

A ten truck hitting it isn't going to be a pleasant experience for even a Volvo's occupants.

I'm interested in all scales, but I collect 1/64 almost exclusively.  I have a handful of 1/43s & 1/18s and a few dozen 1/87s.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HermanEks In reply to SwiftysGarage [2016-04-11 18:20:26 +0000 UTC]

Most certainly! But I had in mind possible in-town crashes, not solely ones involving a CitiCar.

Well, at 1/64 scale I only have only 6 models by Revell (3 Ford rat rods & 3 Chevy lowriders), 4 by Kyosho (all of them being Japanese GT race cars), 1 by XCO, in resin (also a Jap' Grand Prix racer), 3 classic German cars by an unknown (Chinese) manufacturer, and a CAT track-type tractor by Norscot (possibly a replica). And I will also get in the near future the three GM Firebird turbine concept cars from the 1950's, made by Norev.

HermanEks In reply to SwiftysGarage [2016-04-12 20:49:01 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for being interested, I'll take some pics. Umm... Do you mean the 1/64s or the collection in the whole? I'm asking because I have a very small room in which I've somehow managed to squeeze the furniture, a hi-fi stereo system, a home cinema surround system, books, figurines, the computer(s), [...] myself, and over 1800 scale models - so they're more like stored in multiple layers than displayed; even some of my favorite models are ”buried”.

SwiftysGarage In reply to HermanEks [2016-04-13 02:42:41 +0000 UTC]

I know that feeling - a few shots of anything in your collection will be fine.  Whatever's handy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HermanEks In reply to SwiftysGarage [2016-04-18 20:44:11 +0000 UTC]

I haven't forgotten about the pics, but it will take a little time because I wanna get at least half decent shots and the digital camera that a friend lent me a while ago proved to be crappier than I thought - the smartphone's 8 MP one is way better.   Also, after having acquired a few new models, I've spent almost two nights rearranging the 1/87s, trying to stuff more of them in the same space. With little success...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SwiftysGarage In reply to HermanEks [2016-04-19 01:27:46 +0000 UTC]

Believe it or not, the lower the MP on cameras seems to work better for shooting diecast.  It comes down to depth of field, and I find a 3 MP camera works best for 1/64.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HermanEks In reply to SwiftysGarage [2016-04-19 03:20:33 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, the DOF (depth of field) has more to do with the lens, the aperture, the quality of the image sensor, and the image processing capability of the camera, than the resolution. I suppose that your 3 MP camera has an optimal combination of these when it comes to macro photos.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SwiftysGarage In reply to HermanEks [2016-04-19 04:30:22 +0000 UTC]

It did, back when it was still working.   Now I have a DSLR that can't do what I bought it to do (which is, specifically, high quality 1/64 diecast shots).  Which is why I gave up on shooting small scale cars and started shooting real cars instead.

Technology frustrates me.  I have no use for the vast majority of it (I don't even have a cell phone), and the internal workings of a camera (digital or otherwise) holds no interest to me (and I won't even pretend to know how they work).  I'm merely basing this on what the guys at the camera store said.  All I want is a camera that I can put in macro mode and shoot pictures of my model cars.  No messing around with settings, just point and shoot.  But those pictures have to be crystal clear, like these:

swiftysgarage.deviantart.com/a…

swiftysgarage.deviantart.com/a…

swiftysgarage.deviantart.com/a…

swiftysgarage.deviantart.com/a…

swiftysgarage.deviantart.com/a…

And my old Fuji S3000 was perfect in that regard.  All I did was put it in macro mode and start shooting and I got great pics.  Nothing else I've tried has come close, and even the experts at the camera shop haven't been able to make this Canon do what I want it to do.  It's irritating.  All I want is to take pictures like I used to.  Without spending more money (I already overpaid for this camera, I'm not putting more money into it).

HermanEks In reply to SwiftysGarage [2016-04-20 21:30:10 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, it's true that a sophisticated device is more selective, but a Canon DSLR should take decent macro photos. Maybe it's the lens? Do you want me to ask a friend who really knows a thing or two about cameras and photos? (The guys at the stores aren't always knowledgeable, I remember how a dude working at a hi-fi store arrogantly told me that no apparatus of a certain type has the feature that I asked about; I've refrained from telling him that I have at home such a non-existent thing.)
Wow, you don't have a cell phone?   I'm not one of those who speak, text or something all day long, but I don't think I could manage without one...
Pretty nice pictures! I've taken a few pics of three 1/87s and two 1/160s (N scale) with the 8 MP smartphone camera to test the depth of field. (See the link below; I haven't cropped or modified in any way the photos, they are just as the camera took them.) One of these days I will make the promised pics, I've just finished some cleaning and minor rearrangements.

Thanks!

Well, it was sunny yesterday, so I took some shots. The models are just random, I was too lazy to ”dig” for some more interesting ones... So:

Four of the stacks of models in my room:

A few concept cars in weird boxes:
s1055.photobucket.com/user/Man…

People don't go out and say "Oh I'll have a crash today". You don't need to be paranoid about that. My grandmother loved to be 100 and she was driving since the 1930s and never had a car crash.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HermanEks In reply to SiberianSpirit [2016-04-07 13:24:04 +0000 UTC]

I'm not paranoid, in almost 26 years since I drive - sometimes (almost) recklessly speeding - I've had only minor crashes*, and some of the cars that I had were not quite safe, but one cannot always rely on sheer luck. Better safe than sorry, don't you agree?

* I live in Romania, the country with the highest road traffic fatality rate in Europe...
