Description WARNING: This was made to hurt your eyes.

Man, do I love Phantom of the Opera. There is something about it that just ... It's just awesome in a completely unexplainable manner. I can't say it - you need to read the book or see some movies (but NOT the Dario Argento one) or even some musicals to understand it. But no - firstly, you need to read the book. There is something there that...

And as a btw: Erik x Christine is my OTP

So, after many a years since my first interaction with it (and months since reading the book for the first time), I finally found the time to actually give tribute to this wonderful work of fiction, tangled a bit with fanfiction

So above we have the awful anatomy of The Red Death (Erik) and "Spring Flower" as I like to call it (Christie) Which in my mind IS BLOND! dancing at the masquerade ball. I know she should be wearing a domino get-up in the original novel, but I just can't see her like that. So Webber... your costumes were awesome And as for The Red Death - it's mostly a combination between all the Red Deaths which had come in the public's eyes... but mostly something between the 2004 movie and Michal Crawford's awesome stage costume.

That being said - enjoy!

I love Phantom of the Opera! I have yet to read the book (both the original and a very good re-write which title eludes me now) but I loved the play so much! Yes, I always pictured Christine as blonde. I think that most people began drawing her with dark hair because of Sarah Brightman, who originated the role on the London stage. She had gorgeous dark curls which came down to her waist!

I LOOOVE Phantom of the Opera! Wile I've never read the book, I've seen both the 1925 film AND the 2004 film (still have yet to watch the '98 one) and I LOVE IIIIIT <3

And trick question: How can one not love PotO? We have a mad man who's after a beautiful soprano that's in love with a fop (... sorry, but Raul IS a fop... in the original book at least) and everything is set at the Paris Opera House... INSTANT LOVE!

AAAAAAAH! I've died and gone to Paris Heaven! Awful anatomy, ah shush! Erik looks so fabulous here, seriously! I love the bright red you chose for his costume. It really makes him stand out of the picture more. That'd be nice if he stood out so much, he'd be in my living room! Yes! Blonde Christine! She was a blonde in the book, so yes, that's correctomondo! ALW's version is with dark curly hair because of Sarah Brightman. He wrote the musical with her in mind all along. Her features in your drawing look very simple yet stunning and I the look of her gown! What an adorable pose, too! Bah, forget Raoul, that pompous ass!

I actually met a Red Death cosplayer at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con. His costume was very much like ALW's version, or what Michael Crawford wore in the London production. I have to show you this photo I took of him. This one has been shrunk down a little. If you want bigger, I can go dig for the disc and upload the higher resolution photo.

OGHSAGFEY%$|^%^TEYDWGYTSADV^@#%V^&%$|#@^%&^#&@%$&^%&^%$%^^&$%(*)!(@)!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great,l. big, flamboyant, feathery RED DEATH! Man, that costume must weight a ton, but it's just so awesome. My respect for the cospayer

Obviously, Webber's costume designer had more imagination then me... God is that awesome.

As for the red, I must admit that ever since reading the book I had a very particular shade of red in mind, something like in the 2004 movie (where music could have been better, acting, definitely, the phantom could have been more disfigurated BUT the visuals were just ). I kept thinking that after a lifetime of hiding in the dark, a more traditions part of his mind would like to stand out. He was not completely sane to begin with after all. I mean... who would (all things considered) ? Somebody should take him out more and yes, I know that sounded strange considering he's a fully grown man

Brinatello In reply to sycamoreleaf [2011-04-08 10:14:37 +0000 UTC]

I take it you like it? I got a photo with him as well. I had my hair curled that day, so I was doing the ALW version of Christine.

Exactly! He always wore dark clothing. He played music in the dark, ate in the dark, slept in the dark, went home in the dark, he basically lived in the dark! When the time came to flaunt it all, he picked the most brightest costume he could get his hands on. One of the best pictures ever as the Red Death was by Greg Hildebrandt. He actually did the illustrations for a condensed version of Leroux's novel. You HAVE to find it!

You mean the book with Greg's illustrations? I found copies at Amazon, some rather inexpensive.
