Description "Whenever Im weary
From the battles that raged in my head
You made sense of madness
When my sanity hangs by a thread
I lose my way, but still you
Seem to understand
Now & forever ..."
Richard Marx - Now & Forever [link]

Mr. Basil ... what are we going to do with you?

Before you ask, that 'little' ball of light up there was suppose to be a firefly ... but since I altered it's appearance to a point in which even I can't figure out what it is ... it's up to you.

Ok, now - I had a little free time during math today so I started doddling at the back of my notebook (yes, again) and there was one doddle that I liked. So much like it happened with all my other Disney-related pics I scanned it and toyed around in Photoshop for about two hours and this is pretty much the result (need to thank ~xXTracksTheWolfXx for giving me the idea :3 - sorry for forgetting about the robe XD ...)

Basil always struck me as the type who works himself to death, and when he's not going to take care of himself, then who to care for him then his dear landlady? I can soo see this scene happening :3 (first shot at drawing Mrs. Judson so once again, don't kill me if I did something wrong :s )

And now, without further ado ... enjoy!

Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

If you go by the Eve Titus books and Disney film, Basil's past before becoming a detective is heavily clouded in mystery. It makes you wonder just how close he really is to his landlady, Mrs. Judson. If it's anything like the relationship between Sherlock Holmes and Mrs. Hudson, then I would say they are very close yet still on a professional level (both still address each other by Mr. and Mrs. respectively).

Vision: The motherly side of Mrs. Judson shines heavily here with her tenant found asleep in his favorite red chair. The crushed paper under his arm as well as several others littering the floor indicates he was overworking himself and passed out from the exhaustion. I assume Mrs. Judson came in the room to either bring him some tea or to see how he was before retiring herself. Finding him asleep, she takes a warm blanket to cover him up, something she would normally do for anyone she cares about. A smile shows he's either entered another plain of blissful content or he's responding to the additional warmth she's placed upon him. 5.0

Originality: This is the first time I'm seeing Mrs. Judson with Basil in such a tender, loving way. It's never been written about in any story I've read, so this is considered a fresh and nice new scene of the two. 5.0

Technique: The continual use of soft paint brushes are seen here along with realistic shadow effects, illumination, and vivid colors, making this piece a nice addition to =Mikomi-sama 's other GMD masterpieces. I don't know what the little balls of light are for, perhaps spirits or orbs watching over them? The white squiggly lines remind me of a photograph that's been damaged from careless storage, making this piece seem aged with time. 5.0

Impact: I'm getting a lot of endearment, protection, and warmth from the picture. Though Basil probably never uses the word towards her, there is a lot of love going on in the piece. I do believe the detective genuinely loves Mrs. Judson, he just isn't the type who shows it on the outside. He keeps it more to himself while displaying his professional, aloof side the most. Basil, to me, always seems all business and often has a rapid speech. He cares for her and would admit it if asked, but in a quick fashion: "Of course I care for my dear landlady! Very much in fact-- now, then, as I was saying..." For this moment, the most she would receive for her kindness is a smile and a small thank you before he goes back to the matter at hand! 5.0

Actually, wouldn't it make a lot of sense if Mrs. Judson had once been Basil's nanny when he was little? It wouldn't surprise me if Basil grew up in a wealthy enough family to have one, and she seems to treat him a bit more brazenly than you'd think a housekeeper would. XD

I know, I love that part where she's scolding him about shooting the pillows! And how he pops up looking like "Oh crap, she caught me."

Disney's animation is simply beautiful! But as stand-still pictures it's a bit dull ... so I went a bit overboard XD

I believed that Mrs. Judson's motherly side was always visible The scene where she started scolding Basil gave it all away ... if she wouldn't care for him then why would she bother scolding him?

yeah. then he got all womanizer on her and was like, "there there, Mrs. Judson. I smell some of your delightful cheese crumpets, why don't you fetch some for our guests," or something like that!!

There are so many inapproriate comments I could make, but I COULD also run out and strangle a chipmunk, so... well, I don't know where I was going with that, but now about the picture:

It is awesome. There are mice and an yet unidentified species of firefly there. I still can't get over the fact why aren't they freaking out because of those insects. You imagine a fat fly twice the size of a basketball buzzing around and you'll start wondering too. I mean; most of the bugs could snap their fingers off, for god's sakes!

Oh, and back to topic... Is it just me or does Basil seem to be growing out of the armchair? Or is the armchair so awesomely soft that he's slowly being swallowed into its unexplored depths? Is Mrs. Judson actually trying to fish him out before the awesomely soft armchair claims yet another victim?

Again, being random and random and maybe a little off in the head I... AM...

Crazy Laughter

ahem... What, you thought I was going for an 300 reference, didn't you?

Oh, and THIS! IS! not. SPARTA!

There are no words to describe how cute and adorable this piece of artwork is.

Given that we see so little of Basil's landlady, it is unsurprising how undeappreciated she is because the film hardly scratches the surface of who she is.

However, your assessment of Basil himself seems spot on. After all, when he is on a roll, nothing gets in his way and when he fails he falls into the pit of despair. Someone needs to take care of him and this makes this image all the more interesting and sweet.

Lovely work.
