Okay. I watch waaaaay too many documentaries on prehistoric humans and human ancestors. But I love them soooo much!!!From left to right you have Homo Erectus, Homo Neanderthalis (Neanderthal) and Homo Sapiens (Cro Magno, aka modern human, you and me!). The only missing member of the Homo genus is Homo Abilis, but only these three co-existed.
Lately I've seen a dramatized doc in two parts, one about Sapiens co-existing with Neanderthal, and the other about Sapiens and Erectus, which is quite rare. I've always been told Sapiens met Neanderthal, but actually these three species lived at the same time!

Other very interesting docs gave me the ideas about the body paint. Red and yellow ochre for Sapiens, dark bluish stripes for Neanderthal.
Ultimate detail: Erectus is holding a hand-ax, their most advanced technology. Neanderthal has a short, strong spear meant for stabbing, Sapiens has a thin, light spear meant for throwing. And an egg-shell water container, inspired by the same documentary!

I really like the style. Chibi, of course, on the other hand, there's a more traditional palette and more details, rather subtle shading and I also like the patterns.
In this particular image, you seem to have chosen to display the three species in a way that implies successive evolution (as in "change" as well as the natural process) even though they're supposed to have coexisted. Here's what I mean: You already mentioned the tools, but I would like to add clothing and body hair strength/implied density. And maybe cultural items? Tools, tools+body paint, tools+body paint+jewellery. (And uni-brow levels?^^)
Anyway, your art is great. I approve your interest in this topic. Keep up the good work.

Yeah I didn't go too deep in the details, but I sure struggled with body hair in cute-chibi style...
My hope is that kids will get interested in such subjects thanks to accessible illustrations.

As a matter of fact, there was interbreeding between sapiens and Neanderthal, so if you can trace your lineage to anywhere outside of Africa, you probably have neanderthal DNA!

Yeah, I saw that amazing documentary about decoding the Neanderthal DNA! Apparently, non-African Sapiens' immune system is inherited from Neaderthal's. It's so exciting!
