Description The Radcliffe Camera ("Rad Cam" in common parlance) is the first example of a round library in Oxford. It is now part of the Bodleian Library, one of the country's copyright libraries (meaning that everything published in Britain gets a place there automatically, which amounts to several thousand a week). The Rad Cam was built in 1748 by James Gibbs, commissioned by testament by John Radcliffe, royal physician to William III. Radcliffe had died in 1714. It is connected to the Bodleian Library by underground tunnels.

To Tolkien, who taught at Oxford, this was the model for the Temple of Morgoth in Numenor.

Baroque and Palladian, indeed.
