Lot of realism here! Love that the black lips are popping out, good choice to get black lips in stead of normal 'pinkish' (well pink in grey colours that is).

Splendid work- it looks very tidy and realistic. It's ironic but when it comes to realism, sometimes it's better to have overexposed references, because they save work and by highlighting the facial features, you achieve that perfect resemblance almost effortlessly.
I know this is nothing that a careful observation can't tell, but I have difficulties doing realistic hair, especially if it is very smooth and straight hair, such as this. And I was wondering if you could share a key tip or something. Perhaps I need thinner lead?

Well, I do tend to use a thin lead especially for straight smooth hair. 0.5mm, I've tried 0.3mm recently but that takes longer with no appreciable improvement.

Oh, there's the problem, that I never use mechanical pencils for that. I'll try those 0.5mm
Thanks!

It looks really realisitic, but I think the thing that makes it most real is the eyes!!! How do you do them? Is there a certain technique?

Syntheta-NZ In reply to Slushy13 [2009-10-17 07:19:15 +0000 UTC]
Hmm, sorta, gently outline them, the shape of the eye, the eyelid fold, the inner bottom lid bit and tear duct, iris and the where ther reflection is going to be, then more heavily line the lines that will stay black (top lid, most of the bottom lid, iris outline except reflections) and fill in the pupil behind the reflections. Shade in the iris with all the little patterns you get, usually darker near the edges and next to the pupil. Shade in the skin around the eye to as dark as you need it and smooth, go over this with eyelashes using flicky strokes. Do the little inner lid bits. Shade in the whites of the eyes gently so the eyeball looks spherical shaped and then smooth. Go over highlights with a kneaded eraser.

Syntheta-NZ In reply to BenavolutionArt [2009-06-20 03:12:39 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I have to edit it after the scan to get it to look like the original because graphite reflects the scanner light.
