This one and your Gorgosaur are the best tyrannosaurids I've seen in DA so far. Excellent style and integument choice.Β Absolutely stunning.Β

At first, I thought those wings were made of the quills of feathers like cassowaries. But I think that those on cassowaries evolved from proper flight feathers, and I'm pretty sure Teratophoneus did not have a flying ancestor.

T-PEKC In reply to 8bitAviation [2013-08-01 19:13:13 +0000 UTC]
Phylogenetically wings predate the origin of flight in coelurosaurian theropods. Wings as anatomical structure firstly appeared in non-flying theropod (the most basal coelurosaur known to have wings is the ornithomimosaur Ornithomimus, and were only later modified for flight by paravians. This being said, the wings of my Teratophoneus are ment to resemble those of cassowary.

Whoops! I realise now that quills were not evolved specifically for flight and primitive feathers that were not used for flight had quills too. I made a mistake in the comment I wrote before. Sorry!

This is awesome, I especially love the eye marking. What exactly do you mean by EBFF? (Watch as it's something completely obvious that I should know. Derps.)

T-PEKC In reply to Patrikia-Bear [2013-07-28 19:35:38 +0000 UTC]
Thank you!
EBFF is abbreviation for "Elongated Broad Filamentous Feathers". This kind of feathers is described in the therizinosaur Beipiaosaurus, and they are thought to be among the more primitive types of feathers.

It's a very clear progress compared to the previous attempts. I can feel the weight of the feathery coat and
the gravity working on it. I was planning on doing a Tyrant series some time ago but agian I have little time.
Keep up the good work !

When you have more time in your hands, I think you should give this series of yours a try. I can't get tired of quality reconstructions of tyrannosaurs.
Happy to hear your thoughts about the feathering, and to know I succeeded in getting it "more" right this time!

Your feathering is indeed quite appropriate for such big animals.
I have a Bistahieversor piece on the works but I need to find some original pose.

Thanks!
These are probably the first Tyrannosaur-Wings I can like. Maybe not like, but tolerate.
Well, it's something. To be honest it's hard to give wings to any tyrannosaur, that look primitive enough, yet looking clearly like wings.Β
I'm still not sure if the eye-mark was good idea. I mean, I like it, but it probably could have been better. It's that, I just didn't want to leave it with "blank" face, as I did with my Gorgosaurus drawing.

This is dazzling! One of your best works so far, I bloody love it. The amount of details is extraordinary, and you've done a superb job with both scales and feathers.
Glorious is all I can say.

Thank you very much for all the compliments, and kind words! It's always appreciated.
You may be surprised, but the details here are much less than the usual for my drawings. Or atleast they were done in much shorter time. I guess it's the feathers texture that makes the illusion for great amount of details.
