Description
The mantua or manteau is a gown popular from 1680s to Luis XIV's death. Mantua was made from a single length of fabric, instead of a bodice and skirt cut seperately. It was pleated over a petticoat and a stomacher, with the back looking like this:

Dress had a square neckline, covering the shoulders. Mantuas started as an informal wear and were quite scandalous at first, because a woman could put it on and off without assistance...
A fontange is a headdress made of tiers of wired lace decorated by ribbons and lappets. It was popular from 1680 to around 1710 in France. It was named after Marquise de Fontange, Luis XIV's mistress.
