17: Blood

Well, I didn't mean to start drawing today - I should be finishing a couple of commissions, but alas, I really wanted to sketch something over some coffee. So, I pulled out a new sketchbook (old one is full!) and started in on more themes.

This one just called to me. I kind of always knew what I was going to do for this, but I could never actually figure out what it would exactly be, just the concept. Well, today I got lucky, and it worked out on paper!

The dress would be made out of a ton of layers of very sheer silks, which would be ombre dyed more randomly (twisted up and tied, versus just solid bands, more like tie-dye) from deep red, almost black, up to a more realistic red. It would fade into an almost pink color, simply because of how you let the dye creep up the fabric.

At the hips and waist, the sheer would then be controlled with some fabric manipulations, akin to random tucks that would swirl and twist together... I need to get a photo of what I'm talking about, because it's rather hard to explain. Then, after the hips, it would just release the fabric and let it flow out.

The top of the bodice was the hardest part to figure, and I'm finally happy with it. I didn't want sleeves, because they all wound up being too elven/LotR or kimono like, and that is definitely not the feel I wanted. But, little floofy sleeves that also explode like the skirt would be perfect. And, of course, because I have an obsession lately with the neck, it has to come up and then flare into a more Edwardian style collar. All along the top of the outfit, there would be the same tucking to control the excess fabric.

Down the front, little pearl beads just add a bit of an accent.

Not sure I'm happy with the background color, but everything else seems to disappear in the background or clash too badly. Maybe I'll change it later...
