Description So, here is my second rendering for our first assignment dealing with color. We were told to bring in two paintings, and those would be our inspirations for the colors on something we had already designed (I'm just happy the instructor let me use this piece, otherwise, I wouldn't know which one I'd do!)

The color inspiration for this comes a book I have on Alphonse Mucha (the guy who did the most beautiful art-nouveau pictures ever).

We had to isolate a small portion of the image, and for this one, the woman is wearing a really crazy-detailed head piece, and I isolated a portion of that. It is mostly bronze, red (like a burgundy red), and a mauve, with a tiny bit of blue (I'll look up the picture name if anyone is interested).

This one was not so bad (took me a good 45 minutes, after the other one took about 4 hours) mainly because I have now mastered the art of putting everything on separate layers, and using the "Replace Color" feature

Cheating? I don't think so - it's the payment for taking forever to do the first one, that's how I look at it!

So, here is that design colored to match those colors (pretty much, at least). I'm sure we'll be asked such questions as "what is the mood of these colors?" and the like, but I really can't think right now - this was one marathon 5 hours to color both images coloring session.

She looks so moody in these colours! I can't decide which colourways I like better. The other is brighter and fresher this is much more subtle. Yay to doing everything in layers and changing colours and definately not cheating when you've already put the effort in to do all those layers!

I really like this one, and I like the colors more than on the other one as well, but the other one looks like Christmas without the white xP (Well, the picture itself looks good, but if those colors were made into a costume, it'd look that way, I think.)

And I'm finally getting a tablet as well (though it's a cheap one), at least it is one. Just waiting for it to be shipped and arrive next week. ^^

I'm glad you're getting one! They're just too much fun

I agree - there is something that works better in this one ~ my instructor suggested it was actually the skin tone on the other one that makes it pop out a lot more, so I'm going to go and change it and see how it works

Thankies!!

I'm really looking forward to it, I can't wait to play around with it... I'll have to go out to coffeehouses and such just to draw on Nyappy Lappy now xP

Ooooo, I love the colors on this better! I love the design you did with the twigs and the chiffony fabric draped across them. And I LOVE the corset top! It's just made of win!

I like these colors better than the other ones, but it seems kinda drab..lol I guess because it doesn't have the brilliant green in it.

Hehe, I agree - there is some medium I'd need to come to between the two designs if I could only turn in one of them - I miss the bright greens on this, too (they make me happy!)

Thank you

kyusai [2008-03-11 04:15:42 +0000 UTC]

I keep flipping back and forth trying to decide which one I like best.

Though I love them both, I think this one wins for me, something about the blue draws the eye in and the natural colours fit better with the woodland theme.

taeliac In reply to kyusai [2008-03-14 00:46:19 +0000 UTC]

Yes! That blue is just too much fun, and I'm happy I noticed it (almost didn't in the original picture, oddly enough~) It just needs a bit o' green (or, maybe I'm just in love with the green hair!)

Thank you

SilverSinger [2008-03-11 04:10:59 +0000 UTC]

I like this one more; It's got a lovely pallet, and I agree with CatalystSwitch that the blue just pops in the best sort of way. (btw, I also like your coloring job - Photoshop is a wonderful thing, no?)

taeliac In reply to SilverSinger [2008-03-15 19:33:11 +0000 UTC]

I'm falling more and more in love with Photoshop as I learn how to use some of the features better - I had been so afraid of just playing around before, but a few tutorials have helped immensely!

I agree, too - this color pallet is just stunning to work with~ that little bit o' blue makes a huge difference in my mind, too - can't do anything in all warm colors

Why thank you! I normally don't work a lot with red colors, so it's good to know I didn't abuse them

J-Cleo [2008-03-11 03:37:35 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, I think I prefer this one more. The other one seems to contradict itself in that the design looks like it's signifying fall/the coming of winter, yet it had a healthy coat of green and bright red whereas this seems to fit the mood.

Very nice job though. I can't imagine those red vine-like things being safe enough to actually wear in public. XD; I mean, you could poke someone's eye out or get yourself snagged every other feet. D:

i really like the colours in this one best, it looks more natural and earthy/woodsy. i really like the pink on the drapey bits and how they go with the flamey leaves, all offset with the blue, really nice!

flufdrax [2008-03-11 01:57:40 +0000 UTC]

Hmm I see very early spring in this picture for some reason. The first pail pink and bright blue flowers poking out of the mud and the old leaves of the previous year.

Hehe, thank you!

I was just too lazy to do much else with the pencil sketch, which is why it's so fuzzy and weird, but I just love how messy everything wound up looking I wanna color more weird random stuffs now
