I had seen the original photo a while back and I was wondering if you managed to get in touch with the photographer. I was looking forward to using it as a reference, but wasn't sure how to contact him/her.
Beautiful piece! I absolutely wish I had met him.

He's so beautiful and always will be...still so sad that he passed away so young.
I saw the original image and the lady was very kind in letting me use that photo for reference.

I'm truly humbled by your wonderful comment. Habib is one of my all time favourite paintings. He absolutely bounces off the canvas and it was an honour to paint him in remembrance and as a tribute to such a fine breed.
I do try to make my work original so it means so much to hear you say such a wonderful thing about me work. Your images are GORGEOUS! Thank you again!

Wonderful to hear from you again. Art and prices vary from artist to artist, from skill level to experience. I try to keep my prices very fair. Some tell me I don't charge enough, others too much. You can't please everyone but I have bills to pay too and art is part if my profession.
However, I'm not unreasonable! I love my paintings to go to good homes. If you want to make me a reasonable offer then by all means note me. We can come to an arrangement if you like. I'm very flexible.
The symbols are very meaningful to me and are also contemporary in feel which is something I like. I explain the meaning of my symbols on my bio on my home page. Feel free to check it out, don't worry, it's not long! lol.

Oh I understand the price, there are hours in the paiting I guess. And the technik looks like you worked hard to get there where you are. I believe that the price is reasonable. It is kind of luxury to have such a painting. Like an expensive car in front of the house, you know.
Looking forward your next horse painting !!

Great styl!Great horse!I've never painted with acrylic. Is it difficult?

Tahnja In reply to Lissa75 [2011-07-17 00:04:12 +0000 UTC]
aww thank you so much my friend! Yes, acrylics can be difficult for two main reasons, they dry quickly and they don't always dry true which means some colours do not dry the same as when wet. That can be SERIOUSLY frustrating....but I do admit that I love the ability to finish something quickly when I am in the right mood and not have to keep waiting for layers to dry such as with oils....

Absolutely gorgeous. IMHO, you're not asking enough for it - so much depth, the expression, everything!

Thank you Jessica, yeah I know I'm probably not asking enough, but it's hard enough to sell work at the moment. I wanted to be a bit more reasonable rather than ask too much. I'm still having trouble selling this one but I think that's more my fault. I need to start grouping my work together and put them in galleries. But I don't trust galleries, I need to figure out how to go about getting my work out and seen in the right places

Yes I know and having to justify a price, any price, is even more frustrating. But, educating people isn't a bad thing really. Informing them of my years of study and skill seems to silence the ones who wanna complain and make a song and dance about pricing.
I promote my work on quite a few sites though only the ones I trust. I also can't keep up with too many, it's just not possible otherwise too much time is spent online rather than painting! lol.
But thank you so much for your wonderful words of support. I really do appreciate it very much.

This looks great! It captures the spirit of a Native American Horse although it's a breeding horse infact.

Thank you so much....yes I agree too that the American Indian influence is there....it's not intentional but the symbols I use seem to have that feel to them. And I love American Indians and their beautiful culture....such a beautiful faith

That's right. I totally agree with you concerning the Native American culture and faith - especially their respect towards nature and all its living beings. I have to admit that I'm quite an admirer as well. ^^
... So again: Truelly amazing picture!

Love the things you noticed...I did pay particular attention to his facial details in this painting as he is so expressive and missing anything would have taken away from his character. Thank you so much!

He certainly was. I contacted the owner so they could see this painting and she was everjoyed and commented on how I got his eye perfect. That made me really happy. Thought I would mention that seeing as how you paid particular attention to his eye.
Thank you so much for your support! God bless you

The texture in this piece is really well handled--thick and heavy, but balanced nicely with the fine details in the head of the horse. Lovely color pallet and nice rendering! A really neat portrait!

Such a great comment. I really love impasto medium, it allows me to be a tad lazy with my backgrounds because I'm not a landscape artists in any sense of the word. With impasto I can add interest without trying to accomplish something I'm not good at. I also seem to be best with a limited palette. I've often worked in full colour but as I studied limited palette my work just seemed to get a great deal more attention.
Thank you so much for your great comment. I very much appreciate it.
