Description For 's contest fav.me/d696afi to create a partner for one of her lady monsters. I went with her Centaur:

Her friend prefers to work in the buff. I couldn't come up with a romantic pose so created a portrait of them defending their territory.

Background clouds inspired by: fav.me/d2pb451 from

Pencil crayon and India ink on 9x12" (around A4 size) drawing paper.

Unveil me... I think the title works very well with the subject, simple and to the point but I think also a bit metaphorical as well. I really like that you have a red hair here, I find something very deep in the contrast of it's darkness with the gentle light, it reminiscent of a rebirth, the way it slides past the neck, the first new breath taken. A delightful sensuality that is both pure and still hints at other feelings through the red hair.I like the framing, it makes my eyes follow the line of the arm and that drape of the cloth. To look forward as it were, just like he is in him unveiling… There is skin, but it is used very well to tell the story and it compliments rather then distracts. I like the bracelets a lot; also i like the blue sky; has a sort of freeness to it, unrestrained and loose. There are a lot of nice little details that all work together nicely to create a very beautiful image. Well done.

Wow! I love the way you drew details like tatoos!
It's an awesome piece, keep adding work as good as it or better!

Thank you! This was very different from what I usually draw and paint, so it was a fun challenge.

I just love the composition of this picture! The poses, the cropping and the background form a lovely "whole". I especially like how both of the centaurs are looking in the same direction but their bodies are viewed from different angles that suit their weapons of choice.
It's obvious that you've put a great effort into the details and such Not everyone would draw clouds like that in the sky, for example! They look lovely. Also, the lacing of the female's top is just excellent.

Now, if you want to know what I think you could do better... The hands are a little small in my opinion, but more so on the male centaur. The female's tail also looks kind of thin, but I don't really know anything about drawing animals

I commend you on using colored pencils Just use more varying colors to add some more depth! Use a different color for the shadows, for example. Don't just press harder with the same color. It'll make an instant change

Overall, a lovely piece!

Thanks very much for the lovely comments! Glad to hear you like the angles I chose - I must have done at least a dozen sketches with different poses and positionings. True enough, the male centaur's hands are small - that's what I get for using my own (female) hands as a model. And yeah, I could have fleshed out the tail a little more on the lady centaur.

Pencil crayons have always frustrated me, especially how it's difficult to get them to colour evenly. I guess it's a little hard to tell, but I did use different colors for the shadows, especially on the upper body & facial shadings. But you're right, I could have done more. Always room for improvement.

You're welcome
I can understand that very well, by the way I often use my own hands for reference, too, which sometimes hurts the proportions.

It takes patience, yes, but I don't think it's that hard if you are patient
I actually noticed that on the shading of the skin, which in my opinion is the best part of this picture colorwise The hair and coats (on the horse part of the body) were my main concern

Ah, cool. Thanks for the clarifications. I'll definitely keep them in mind for future pieces.

Absolutely gorgeous! I love their poses, the colors, the tatoos! Plus, I did not have the guts to draw something as difficult as the centaurs! Wish you best luck for the contest! Great drawing!

Thanks very much! I really enjoyed creating this one. Best of luck for you as well - yours shows emotion between the two of them and the way his wings curl around them is so romantic.

This is so awesome and gorgous. I really like how you designed her "boyfriend" also her little tattoo on the back is very neat.
I think I prefere such a pose much more than a "romantic" one
Wish you good luck for the contest.

Oh good! Very happy you like it. I debated what color to put on his face, I thought about blue but worried it might make him look too much like Mel Gibson in Braveheart. I had several angles of the lady centaur, and as soon as I did I sketch of her back with all the laces I knew I had to use that angle. I studied my shoelaces to try to get the threading accurate. It's fun how much research goes into these sorts of drawings - I wanted it to be somewhat historically accurate so I looked up Greek weapons, and the background is loosely based off a hillside image in Greece.
