Coming back to the start of this after seeing the end, I notice that they both look notably younger here than they do at the end, and also closer to the same height. Was there some kind of timeskip in the comic I missed, or was it just the way you draw them changing?

The best weapons in ranked overall is .96 Gal Deco and the E-Liter 3K.
In the words of an actual high level player:
"PyroDillbrain posted...
incidentally krak-on, far from being one of the top three, is a contender for bottom 3 weapons in the game (at least, outside of the meme category i.e. rapid blaster, inkbrush, sploosh), it's just abusive as hell and popular because B+ players don't know that roller with glowing hair means 'stay away' and make threads about it on gamefaqs when they lose to it. it cannot engage anything outside its terrible range, it gets hard countered by virtually every top tier weapon and even some of the bottom tier ones (the latter referring to blasters for the most part), has a terrible sub, wastes most of its krakens on forced pops (i.e. they get shot and have to use it to not die), and encourage bad habits that will be punished as soon as people stop being bad at fundamentals. both it and the dynamo get shut down hard when they are properly accounted for, but in solo ranked, this never happens."
The only reason is does better in Turf is because of it painting well, and even then it's hard to explain why you wouldn't just use the Aerospray RG with it's stupidly dangerous Seekers for range defense and it's insane ink output. Heck, the Splattershot Jr has high ink coverage as well+team invincibility as a special.
Yeah, Rollers are imbalanced, but not broken. They are underpowered weapons, overall(The Standard Roller attack speed should have been at least Carbon Roller speed).

Metroidman97 In reply to RWBsmasher [2015-09-19 01:33:29 +0000 UTC]
Then explain how a team with nothing but rollers can loose at turf war but win at ranked battle.
π: 0 β©: 1
RWBsmasher In reply to Metroidman97 [2015-09-19 01:55:18 +0000 UTC]
...Because the other team sucks hard? 4 rollers are a joke to fight in BOTH ranked and unranked.
Also, which kind of Roller? Dynamo is for all intents and purposes it's own class of weapon, and it is a significantly better weapon than the other Rollers.

From my experience, most people don't have the hyper competitive view of Splatoon like you do. People use certain weapons because they have attributes that make them powerful. That's why people use weapons that have the Kraken more than any other. It's not because of the weapons having good stats or being fun to use, it's because the special is overpowered and a pain in the ass to deal with. If you've been playing the game since launch, then you'd know that the Krak-on Splat roller was the only weapon that had the Kraken as it's special, yet, it was the most used weapon in the game. Why? Because of the Kraken. Or even earlier, with the Global Testfire. People were using the Roller more than the other weapons. The rollers are considered overpowered because almost every form of attack they have can one-hit kill. This is exemplified in Ranked battles, where players are encouraged to use the weapons as actual weapons. The standard ink flinging attack from rollers is a pain in the ass to deal with because it can happen quickly and unexpectedly, especially with Carbon rollers. In the case of the Dynamo roller, it's ink flinging attack can travel farther than most shooters, and it's long wind up time is negated when by the time you get close enough to hit them, you'll get killed by the attack. This is at it's worst in Tower Control, where since players have to be at a specific location to win, a location the can easily be attacked. When you're on the tower being assaulted by the entire enemy team, you can't focus on the person with the roller because you're focusing on the shooter or charger, so when the roller gets to the tower, a single ink fling can take you out instantly with out you being able counter. And if you choose to focus on the roller, then the rest of the enemy team will take you out. 4 rollers are a pain to deal with in Ranked because you're forced to get close to them, or they can easily get close to you since you're not all spread out trying to cover ground. And, while yeah, at range, rollers are pathetic, but since it's so easy to get close to opponents in this game, especially in Ranked, they become nightmarish pain in the asses. And while a competitive player can deal with them easily, there just aren't enough competitive players in the game. In the case of the Kraken, to a skilled player, they're more of an annoyance than a threat. Yeah, shooting at them can push them back, but few weapons shoot fast enough to keep them at bay (but holding them off with an Aerospray RG then killing them once they change back is pure schadenfreude). Instead, if an enemy activates the Kraken, and you're using a weapon that shoots slowly, like a blaster or charger, you're pretty much forced to stop what you're doing and run to avoid getting killed, interrupting what you were doing before, like trying to kill the person with the Rainmaker. If anything, the problem with the Kraken is that the invincibility and one hit kill ability, coupled with a relatively fast movement speed, draws players to using the weapons with the Kraken, even if the weapon itself isn't that good. (Just look at the L-3 Nozzelnose D)Β
The point is, Rollers are imbalanced and overpowered because they are unlike anything in any other online shooter, and as such, have nothing to use for reference when balancing. And in a game where short range is a bad trade off and ambushing is a key s trategy, coupled with a weapon that one-hit kills no matter what, you have a weapon that gets a lot of flack for being too powerful when even in the wrong hands.
Of course, this is all just my perspective. The only Ranked mode I play is Tower Control since I've officially given up on Splat Zones and I've only played Rainmaker once and decided that it was for the player stereotyped as being an exploiter who uses weapons in unconventional ways to win by any means necessary. As such, I use a custom Duel Squelcher and prefer maps that have a lot of open space and little verticality, like Kelp Dome or Arowana Mall. And I can attest, rollers are a joke to deal with at range. But when you remove that range, well, you know where I'm going with this.

I'm not even that good of a player, but I fear nothing from rollers. Do you want to know how to beat a moving Roller that's not currently a kraken? Run backwards and shoot. Your shots will push them back and they will never be able to reach you. A swinging one? Stay further back than 2 feet. A kraken? Swim in any direction but straight at him/her; your swimming speed trumps their movement speed completely. This isn't a game about kills; if they force you out of one area, you can move to another. In Turf Wars, this means literally anywhere. Rainmaker, find another path. Splat zones, there's enough space to maneuver around the kraken. The only one I would say is a real issue is Tower Control.
"If you've been playing the game since launch, then you'd know that the Krak-on Splat roller was the only weapon that had the Kraken as it's special, yet, it was the most used weapon in the game. Why? Because of the Kraken."
Because new players haven't yet figured out that "Hey, my Splattershot Jr./Splattershot/(insert any weapon with a nonzero range here) wrecks these!"

Wow, it looks like you've played no gamemode other than Turf War. While, yeah, swimming in any direction will outrun a Kraken, but what if all the ink around you is enemy ink? You have to stand there, shoot out a path, and then start swimming, giving the Kraken a chance to catch up to you. And even if you try to shoot the Kraken, the knockback has some kind of momentum mechanic, where you could be raining shots from an Aerospray at it nonstop, it can still just barely reach you with it's oversized hit box and kill you because it was moving fast enough to withstand your onslaught of shots. And that's not even taking into account hyperdetermined players who will do their damnedest to get around your volley of shots and be able to graze you just enough to kill you. Dodging a swinging roller? Not everyone has superhuman reflexes like you (I'd love to see you dodge a carbon roller) The only one that's easy to dodge is the Dynamo Roller, and even then, you probably can't swim away because you're surrounded by enemy ink and don't have time to shoot out a path. And you clearly haven't played Tower Control. Someone with a roller, especially a Carbon Roller, can easily climb up the side of the tower, while you're focused on someone else, and instantly kill you. And if you try to focus on the roller climbing up the tower, then you're a sitting duck for any enemies around you. And let's see you dodge 3 rollers flinging ink at you from 3 different directions simultaneously.Β
And you also haven't been playing the game since launch, because the nerf for the Kraken didn't come until about a month later. Before hand, the Kraken was completely immune to knockback, and only one map had grates big enough for a Kraken to fall through without being able to get anyone. Combine this with everything else mentioned before and give it to a weapon people were calling over powered before the game even came out, and you have a weapon that will see more use, and more hate, than anything else. Seriously, you couldn't go a single game without at least 2 people using it. It was that overused.
