Warhammer 40k - Eternal Crusade fanart
Made for the Strike Force Ultra group, who will fly under the Ultramarine chapter. Although I did add a chaplain to the pic, its not known if we will get one later (not at launch, nope), still, couldnβt resist. Plus they look epic to boot.

From left to right, top to bottom the characters and their companies are as follows:
Cpt. Oculus, 3rd Company, red trim, leader of the Strike Force
Cpt. Algernon, 1st Company, white trim, leader of the 1st Veteran Company
Sergeant Saur, 5th Company, black trim
Meridius, 2nd Company, gold trim
Phyllionell, 1st Company, white trim
Reithas, 2nd Company's Chaplain, gold trim

I love this art, it show how spaces marines, and even one as usually tought as "dignified" like the ultramarines, can be quite brutal when they prosecute a war... and why they are scary !

Yea I wanted a bit more dynamic scene then the typical "last stand" or king of the hill thing
I always thought that an assault is rather fitting to Ultramarines ^^
And yea... well any SM can be just as savage as say... a Space Wolf

Well, most likely due to my country not really a fan of digital art when it comes to galleries
Aside of that, it would be great to see it in an art gallery!
My client that commissioned it have printed it out to put it on his wall (in a 2m x 1m-ish size) and looks really nice ^^

Well actually its an old fave of mine, going back to an old game (WH40k - Chaos Gate was the name I think... ?)
Aside of that, I got into tabletop too a bit
Actually... I think I got only this so far thats a full, real illustration in the WH40k universe, aside of the portraits I've made for the DoW2 mod (Elite mod) ^^
I quite like it actually, bit gritty, dark and with some really great themes all around. Ironically, SM is not my top fave theme in WH40k x) I'm more of a Necron, Ork,Β TauΒ guy (in that order ^^). Especially necron

I kind of got attuned to WH40k thru the THQ/Relic game Dawn of War PC game.Β For some reason the table top game never appealed to me (timewise).Β The PC game was always easier to jump into, and the skirmishes usually last less than a couple of hours at the most.Β It did give me an appreciation of the miniatures in their own right.Β Some of those sculpts are amazing.

Well, mainly I got into tabletop mostly because I could sculpt and modify them for my leasure ^^
Although I'm quite a beginner when it comes to sculpting tho
And yea, I got into WH40k mostly due to DoW 1-2 too. But I've enjoyed reading the lore and books all the way, at least what I could get my hands on
Like the Inquisitor series and the Gaunt's Ghosts series
And I agree, PC games then finding a solid group of players to play tabletop
And the miniatures, yea they have an appeal, especially the new editions ^^ (I'm drawing an illustration now, based on the Imperial Knights and Mawlock models
