Description 111031-A-VB845-065

U.S. Army Soldiers from the 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division rest in a
village at Mullayan, Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, Oct. 31, 2011. The Soldiers had just
completed a long foot patrol. (U.S. Army photo by Spc. Kristina Truluck/Released)

I considered naming this piece 'Sleeping Beauty' but there's nothing beautiful about
Webby when he's sleeping. Silly New Englander.

My military imagery is available for public domain. As the photographer, I don't have control
over how you may use it, but I ask that it be done with respect to the individuals represented here.

First Marine Rule -
NEVER run when you can walk.
NEVER walk when you can stand.
NEVER stand when you can sit.
NEVER sit when you can lie down.
NEVER lie down when you can sleep.

Yeah I knew the Army claims it too. We can share okay.
Worked in Kuwait until recently at Beuhring and Arifjan so I may have seen some of you. Bless you all.

Sharing is caring!Ā

We used this rule ALL the time, haha.Ā  Ooh, maybe!Ā  Though it wasn't my team, unfortunately.Ā
We went through AAS an Quatar.Ā  Quatar had to be the hardest part of the entire deployment -
three alcoholic drinks a day, Starbucks, Arby's...we couldn't choose what to do!Ā

Glad to hear you got back safe and sound!

Like I said, no one ever comes back entirely. We just do the best we can. But I do appreciate the sentiment.
One of the hardest things I've ever done was help those kids mount up to move north knowing what they we headed towards. Sucks to get old and knew what they're about to learn.
Still made me feel like a kid again being around them. Though the look on some of their faces when they learned I'd fought my first before their dad could cross the street alone did balance the scales.
I had the privilege and honor of serving with men who fought in the Pacific and Korea. Now they were really something.
Thanks again for the great photos and sorry for letting my mouth get off the leash.

at the Infantry School, a sergeant told me never to stand when I could sit, never sit when I could lie down, sleep any time you can, and eat when ever there's food...that's a beautiful shot of Rule #2

but once you make sergeant, you can never let them see you lie down...

back in '75 when I was but a pale youth, I was part of a youth employment program the department of Defence ran, we had this veteran Lieutenant,Ā  I guess he was the age I am now, you know an old fart...he used to run us into the ground...and not even appear to break a sweat...of course he was a veteran of the First Special Service Force...it took me twenty years to develop the same kind of endurance...

Or the pineapple. The little FOB I mainly worked from had fresh pineapple almost every week. I never wanted to leave that place.

tanikel In reply to KreepingSpawn [2012-11-11 21:38:51 +0000 UTC]

We actually bring platters of fruit to all of the shuras hosted at the district center. And I'd always end up bringing a take-out box of pineapple to share with the ANA. It's how I ended up with a cat for a day. xD

Overall, great work

Thanks! This was my favorite of all of the snooze shots. We were whooped after the long walk it took to get there. xD
