Description I had a bit of a small rant on Twitter recently where I said that I personally HATE what the anime did to the Dungeon Dice Monsters arc. It completely took away the sense and logic in it, the tragic past of Otogi and his dad, Yuugi's amazing skills and determination, some amazing puzzleshipping moments, and a creepy Bakura playing the good guy role way too well. I hate it so much that I refuse to watch it in ANY rewatch I do. I just read the manga. Fuck you writers.

I made a small drabble based on headcanons I have for what happens when the puzzle breaks in this arc and they're not pleasant. So sorry about that.

“He could feel Yuugi’s distress but wasn’t able to do anything about it. He could feel the rising panic in his partner’s heart but he couldn’t do anything about that either. He could barely see what was happening and it frustrated him to no end. If he could only help…Yuugi was screaming now, telling someone to stop. Telling who? Stopping what?

Then he felt pain. Strong but nothing he couldn’t handle. It didn’t go away though. Why? What was going on? Was something happening to Yuugi? Was someone hurting him?

Suddenly, there were loud cracks and rumbles making his ears hurt. The walls and stairs inside his soulroom started to shatter, now making himself panic. He finally understood. Someone was breaking the puzzle. Why would anyone-

His whole body exploded in pain intense enough for his screams to be silent. The darkness he had once been freed from was coming from all direction, swallowing him. It burned from heat and coldness at the same time. He couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t scream. He couldn’t be saved.

He was lost.”

This..... is amazing.
I've been thinking about what goes on with Yami whenever someone else has the Puzzle. What is he able to feel or sense when the puzzle isn't with Yugi?
and even more curious, what happens when the puzzle shatters?
I actually even have one where (granted I've only seen the anime and the only time I have so far seen the millennium puzzle shatter is when bandit Keith smashed it, Yugi is given the final piece back from Bakura, and then....Yugi is suddenly finishing the puzzle while the entire warehouse is burning down)
is it ok I tag you to the drabble when I finally get it down? what Yami might be feeling when the puzzle is re-finished, what he senses, and what happens when Yugi finally gets the Puzzle around his neck?

I... Seriously have no words for this. Other than my heart aches so much. I love this manga arc as well, and I do agree with you, the anime version was horrible!
I will probably not be able to think about anything but your writing the next time I read the manga again and the puzzle shatters
Again, how dare you mess with my feels like this?
But it's beautiful. The inking is so perfectly balanced and it has such an amazing flow to it. And that chain? Amazing work my friend!

Oh gawd, really? Thank you so much! I don't even... thank you! You're so sweet and kind
I'm sorry for messing with everybody's feels, but I get so many myself over this arc
Yeah, I haven't seen the anime version in the last two rewatches I did, that's how much I don't like it

I mean I enjoyed the manga of Dungeon Dice Monsters, but I also like the anime. I hope you understand that. I like the manga version more, but the anime was great too. Wow...I love how you recreated the puzzle broken in that one part of the manga. My heart almost skipped beat when I read that for the first time. Having Yuugi little that in the drawing is wonderful. I love your thoughts on what Yami might have been feeling and experiencing before and when the puzzle broke. He must of been out while Yuugi completed the puzzle and then he thanked Yuugi once the puzzle was assembled again. The idea for this is truly amazing. Nice work.

Oh I did understand, I just don't think my wording was the best   And I do enjoy the aftermath of the anime better, the conversation about who Atem really is and of course the whole "I want to be with you forever" thing speaks on deeper levels than the one in the manga on the rooftop. I would actually love to recommend a fic about this, written by an amazing girl I share tons of headcanons with: archiveofourown.org/works/1185…
Oh, and thank you! I'm so glad you liked it

I see and it fine. It's just the anime is dear to my heart, since it is how I got into Yu-Gi-Oh! in the first place. I will have to look at this some time. You're welcome.

Wow... just, my heart hurts now and I agree, I preferred the manga version of Otogi's story than the anime. Otherwise, I love this, the pain is real, poor Atem.

Thank you

I will admit, there are some points in the manga that rivals the anime, like Otogi's story, and the manga is a lot darker, I mean, Yami set a dude on fire XD though, they did set it more for kids, so I understand if they didn't want to go tooooo dark

Sorry for rambling, and you're very welcome, dear

Tarashima In reply to VampireHuntress19 [2017-10-30 12:39:40 +0000 UTC]

Oh no need to apologize!
It's actually quite interesting how the majority of YGO fans tend to pick their favorite parts from the manga, anime sub and dub to create some sort of personal supercanon story
Well in Japan it was actually aimed towards younger teens and not kids, but that's not really how it works in most places outside of Japan, sadly enough. If it's animated, it's almost ALWAYS treated like something only for kids -.-;;;

VampireHuntress19 In reply to Tarashima [2017-10-31 01:03:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I have to admit, I loved the shadow games arc of the manga the most... because it didn't only cycle around a children's card game, and the first volume especially, it's all Yami's sadistic games that he made up XD

Yeah, it's once it's here in america and they have to dub over the anime, they're like, okay, dial it back a little and we have a new show for the lineup for saturdays. I do know one show that didn't really get censored too much, but then again they aimed it for teens right off the bat, it was DragonBall Z, I think... been a while since I watched that one

Wiiee thank you! Yeah, I've been collecting the whole eng version of the manga and have completed "Duelist" and Millenium World" (I don't care much about getting the first seven volumes since I have them in Swedish), but I haven't managed to get a hold of all the swedish ones (not surprising since they haven't been reprinted for many years now ). But I'm a good way of getting a hold on the japanese bunkobans, they're amazing!!

..... OUCH! THAT HURT!!!

Just by that description, holy shit... I feel that what was happening to poor Atem! Btw, I do agree with you with the anime taking a different direction with DDM. Not only does it shows us Yuugi battling alone for the first time (and even Bakura helping out), it does show us more character to Otogi and in the end where his father like pretty disregarded him because he only wanted Otogi to avenge him, you feel sympathy for him! It's not cool when your parent only uses you for their means XP

Other than that, great art work!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tarashima In reply to MerinaLopez [2017-10-17 20:39:32 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry for that, I fix it with happier headcanons, hugs and bandaids

But yes to all of that!! You really suffer more with Otogi in the manga than in the anime where he's pretty much just a spoiled brat who didn't get what he wanted/was promised. Hell sometimes I feel like the abridged version beats the hell out of the original anime, "SexyBack" is not really supposed to have that effect -.-;;;
Thank you for your comment

DDM is my favorite arc next to Millenium world, but the former doesn't make me cry so I've read that one more often, maybe too many times lol!
But yes please do! It's such a great part of the story!

Anime is def battle city for me! The animation quality was pretty even and the story is amazing!! Not to mention all the intense duels going on, asdfghjkl!

Oh wow, that was powerful. I also prefer the DDM of the manga, but then I mostly prefer the manga storyline in general. The characters are much more real than some of the 2d anime moments.

Tarashima In reply to JoeyTaylor [2017-10-17 20:44:47 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much! Yeah me as well, but the anime has its moments I love, plus many amazing voice actors (well I prefer the sub but the dub actors did a good job as well), and some monsters work better animated, but that's pretty much it. The manga always wins

I love the English voice actors for the anime, but much prefer the Japanese plot. Weird I know.

Nah, not really, we all have our preferences and YGO is already pretty messed up so there's a lot of us that take what we like and put it together as a personal sort of canon

Love the way you ink them owo and happy to have you back xD

True the manga is far more amazing than the anime, but I think it was because of the season 0 creepiness the duel monster become a bit child friendly

Cause it was just all card games, kids probably read it so why not make it even more kid friendly?

Tarashima In reply to kimchihen [2017-10-17 20:28:38 +0000 UTC]

Aaaw thank you dearie it feels good to be back

I prefer the manga overall, but the anime had its moments that were far superior to the manga (monsters in all their glory but some of them is more fitted for animated action rather than panels in a manga -w-;;; ). And you're so right. Heck, they didn't even wanna import S0 since "the protagonist is a bit questionable" and even that was already more child-friendly than the manga was!

Hehe, pretty much yes

kimchihen In reply to Tarashima [2017-10-17 22:01:02 +0000 UTC]

Welcome xD

Me two also love the manga more although when the one battling with Pegasus' student I didn't get much read of it *pout
Indeed there are some monster that fitted on the anime more
I dunno, maybe burning people alive arent that child friendly??
Yep xD beside the dsod movie's past background story are based on the manga, especially silent magician is colored based on the manga, and the freakin game is based from the manga

Oh and btw nice drabble(?) there owo, I like intense things and most of my fanfiction I read are angsty, so no worries

Hahah, definitely not but I wouldn't really call YGO a kids' show either ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Glad you liked my drabble, I wrote it on a whim and barely checked it afterwards, but it's what I feel about it at least ^w^;;;
