If you used words only to describe Lulu, those words would be sultry, flirty, enigmatic, warm hearted, energetic, kind, ambitious, confident and ever so slightly petty. As an only child, Lulu learned that the only way to get noticed in her bustling hometown is by brimming with confidence, flair and mischief. More often than not, you would see her dabbling in swing dance, singing, performance and art.

As she grew older and into her teens and twenties she became a well-rounded, confident young woman, if not a tad spoiled. She attacks any project with enthusiasm and makes sure she gets any job done and done well. Fiercely loyal to her friends, she’s often seen with a smile on her face, and she tends to refer to her friends as “sweetheart” or “Sugar”. Lulu’s a well-mannered girl, and she treats everyone with respect, even if they may not deserve it. However, she shouldn’t be treated like a doormat, and she’s inherited her father’s fiery streak and sharp tongue. She’s known to drink even sailors under the table.

Lorelei is rather fond of silk cut cigarettes and smokes them often (despite her parent’s disapproval) but only ever with her polished black wood diamante cigarette holder, as she believes it’s more sophisticated. She often allows herself to smoke on the job, if the stress gets a little too much for her. She can always be seen with a carefully applied lick of ruby lipstick and perfectly rollered hair - no one knows why she bothers in a war zone but it makes her feel a little more “normal” in amongst all the chaos, even if it does make her seem a little petty.

Background:

Born in the famous amusement town of Nimbasa City to Johtoan migrant parents, Lorelei has had an understanding of war from childhood. Her parents both fought in the Great War (both of them underage); her father (Isaac Alhambra) from Mahogany Town served in the Johtoan Army and her mother (Isla Alhambra) from Olivine City in the Johtoan Navy. The two met by chance in a field hospital after a particularly bloody battle (and after Isaac had lost an eye), and they married after the war after falling in love over years of letters and scarce meetings during the fighting. The pair decided to up sticks and escape the region, settling into a modest home in Nimbasa City, Unova. Lulu was born a few years after.

Growing up in the town renowned for its entertainment and progression in the arts, Lulu was given a rich upbringing despite her parents not having a massive amount of dispensable income. Her mother was a devoted painter and her father dabbled in sculpting, so Lulu had influences in art and artistic forms from her parents. She was enrolled in dance classes, singing lessons, art groups and acting classes. She excelled in dance and singing in particular, and she is extremely proud of her swing dancing (she’s one of the best Lindy Hoppers in Nimbasa, or so she claims)as well as her ability to sing, and as she grew older she managed to wrangle spots in local classy clubs and bars to sing in front of an audience.

However, her ultimate passion lies in radio and broadcasting. After the war her father took up a job in one of Nimbasa’s radio stations and often took toddler Lulu with him when her mother was at work as an art teacher in the local university. Having been around radio stations and radios for most of her life, she has a deep knowledge of how radio works, and she followed her father’s footsteps to become a radio show host. Known as “The Twilight Hours” Lulu’s show was broadcast in the evening, featuring the most up to date news, local affairs and music. Listened to by hundreds of people in the city, her audiences loved her up to date content and energy/enthusiasm (not to mention the Jazz, Blues and Swing that she played).

When the call to war came out, Lulu decided to sign up despite protests from her family (and her listeners). Feeling a sense of loyalty to her Johtoan heritage she signed up and shipped out for war, enlisting to put her radio skills and knowledge to use. She now works as a radio operator and occasional code breaker for the military, as well as acting as part time typist and assistant to the higher ups helping with any paperwork that they may need done. Her Swanna, Odette, often helps her with this paperwork and acts as her courier. She has ambitions to set up an on-site “war radio” shack, giving the soldiers news from home, health updates, morale boosting information as well as good music straight from the front. She’s yet to be given permission however.

She rejected the typical choice of army uniform and refuses to wear anything else but her mother’s old Johto Navy sailor suit. Due to her not actually fighting on the front, the higher ups have allowed her to keep it. Just.

Its not unusual to her singing during her work or in her quarters.

Captured by the military as a Ducklett, Odette has effectively been raised and evolved in captivity. After being put through rigorous basic training she was also put through courier training despite more capable Pokémon being present to do the job (such as Pidoves or Swellows). As she got older she become more used to human contact and rarely has any outbursts of violence or hostility, and she tends to react to her handlers well.

Once evolved and well trained, Odette was introduced to the Army breeding program, and her chicks were taken once hatched to be raised by human hands and trained for the military. Throughout her short time at the breeding facility she had a few clutches and proven herself a worthwhile military Pokémon. After her time at the facility she was given to Lulu as a courier and companion, and Odette couldn’t be happier with the kind, energetic young woman she now has charge of. Lulu treats Odette with the utmost respect and the Swanna treats Lulu with the same reverence, forming a strong mutual friendship.

Odette often treats Lulu like her own child, and can be seen “preening” the woman or sitting on her on cold nights as she would to incubate her eggs to prevent Lulu from catching frostbite, also guarding her fiercely should she come under any threat. Her feathers are known to be warm and as soft as velvet.
Lulu uses Odette primarily as a courier Pokémon, sending messages or code to and from field offices or to places beyond enemy lines or even back home to deliver KIA letters. The Swanna has a surprising amount of courage and determination, and Odette has been known to fly over extremely dangerous battlefields to get a message to its destination, willingly putting herself in danger for the cause. Despite not being particularly agile and more of a graceful flier, Odette is excellent at long distance endurance flight and when she uses Tailwind she can fly at incredible speeds.

Odette is an incredibly sweet and elegant Pokémon, being almost motherly in nature with a good sense of grounded respectability. She’s well-mannered to other Pokémon and other people, and will often allow other people to touch her feathers. However, she has been known to revert to certain parts of her basic training should Lulu or her associates be in danger, often using powerful attacks to get rid of any threats. She has a scary amount of strength for such a graceful Pokémon and she will also hiss and extend her wings and scare off other aggressive camp Pokémon in an impressive display of size. She has also shown a soft spot for mothering young Pokémon in the breeding facility and the young ‘mons In the Johto camp, and Lulu believes this is due to her missing her chicks that she once had.

Odette likes to spend her time exploring the camp and her surroundings when she’s not flying on missions or being with Lulu, and she’s always willing to make new acquaintances around the camp. Due to being with Lulu and her radios for the amount of time she has, she also has a unique understanding of Morse code and phonetic alphabet and bizarrely she has learned to “honk” certain phrases in Morse code, such as “danger” “not safe” “help is needed” “SOS” “friendly forces” “love Lulu” and “Johto camp”.

Odette seems to also enjoy reading, as she can be seen nesting on Lulu’s cot at night when the woman is settling into bed. Lulu will often read to her, stroking her plumage softly all the while; it seems to calm the Swanna immensely.

Odette has a civil (if not slightly frosty) relationship with Lulu’s Ninetales, Tetra. Fire and water don’t mix at the best of times and Odette isn’t fond of being in such close proximity to such a volatile Pokémon. She treats Tetra with terse respect, and the Ninetales seems to return the favour, keeping it civil for Lulu’s sake.

Whilst Odette is one of the best natured Pokémon you could meet, Tetra is exactly the opposite. Hot headed and foul tempered to everyone except Lulu, she has a slight god complex and a large ego. She put up one hell of a fight when she was ripped away from her family as a Vulpix and forced into service, going so far as to burn down several facilities in the process. She was forced into evolution against her will to make her a stronger tool of war, and this may be part of her spiny personality. Tetra was seen as a huge liability Pokémon, generally good for nothing and was deemed as a dangerous animal. However when she was palmed off on Lulu she seemed to calm down immensely. The beautiful Ninetales is extremely attached to Lulu for some reason and seems to hate everyone else, going so far as to burn people and Pokémon should she deem them even the slightest threat or if they get too close to her “Mother”. Tetra thrives on Lulu’s attention and always seems to be a different Pokémon in her presence. Lulu has yet to find a way of breaking Tetra’s bad behaviour towards others.

Tetra is known to never let her “mother” out of her sight, and insists on crawling into Lulu’s cot at night seemingly just to be close to her. Tetra also enjoys having her coat and tails brushed with a soft baby brush to keep her fur looking lustrous. She’s beautiful and boy doesn’t she know it. One of Tetra’s most unique abilities is her ability to change her size at will for a small amount of time. No one is quite sure how she manages this but Lulu seems to think it’s due to her immense psychic or ghost powers. Whilst she is usually the size of an Irish wolfhound at any given time, Tetra can use her ancient powers to grow to the size of a small horse, allowing her to become more powerful on the battlefield. In this “form” however, she becomes even more feral than she usually is, and this growth will only last a couple of hours at most. This process is very taxing physically for her, and she usually suffers from fatigue afterwards. Lulu often believes that this change is possible via demonic or spiritual possession, and that Tetra allows her powers over ghost abilities to “self-possess” her body and allow her form to change. She has only done it a couple of times.

Lulu uses Tetra primarily as a body guard due to her immense strength; however Tetra can also use her psychic/telekinetic abilities to help Lulu move radio equipment, intercept signals as well as break codes and such. She is also trained to light torches around camp and providing contained open fires to keep the soldiers warm.

She communicates with humans primarily in “gekkering” when she is happy or fighting, “screaming” or “shrieking” when bereft, scared or angry and “chirping” when happy or content. She has however been learning to communicate with Lulu via physic link, however her sentences seem to be broken or short as she’s still in the process of learning to communicate with the human mind.
Despite her confident, haughty and generally arrogant exterior, Lulu has occasionally seen Tetra “weep” at night alone, possibly for her lost family. She often goes out into the camp at night and mournfully howls or “screams” to keep away any dangers by spooking any ambushes, wild Pokémon or raiding parties with her call.
