Character: Inquisitive, curious and full of energy. Taken on her father's love of attention, but tempered by her mother's quiet and sensitive nature. We can only hope she'll grow up to be a happy medium - charismatic and keen, sweet and sensitive - just not bulshy or hyperreactive I guess we'll see...

Birthing Complications:slight mispositioning. Shifted into place naturally with no lasting effects and no necessary interference.

"Easy, easy," Chess soothed, coaxing Aphie after her with a quiet voice and a light touch on the lead rope. "No one's taking her away from you; but let's just get you inside..."

Aphie snorted, her steps still tense as she kept glancing to her side, even as she quieted and continued to trail Chess back to the Yard.

The labour had been smooth on the whole and Chess had been there from the start - sitting at the base of the tree in the circle because she had a feeling Aphie was going to drop. She'd called Becca and Roo down from the farmhouse at midnight, but they'd stayed back, calling the vet. The new mother was tired but healthy and happy; she was quite protective and somewhat uncertain with people approaching the new filly, so everyone was giving her space - letting Chess handle her horse as she did normally.

In the half light of the early morning, Chess let the two of them into the large foaling box in the corner of the yard. The sky was clear, the atmosphere cool in the way that promised a warm, sunny day ahead. Aphie tramped through the deep straw bed waiting, groaning in quiet relief as she settled in the shadows at the back.

Her curious little foal raised her tiny, dished head and her little muscles rippled under the downy cream brown coat. Her startled whinny broke the quiet of the dawn as Chess closed the door behind them.

"Hush, you!" Chess laughed at her as Becca and Roo approached, the vet in tow.

With a head toss and a snort, she kicked her heels and scampered over to Aphie, ducking under her still swollen belly to hide at the back of the smooth stone wall.

"Morning, Daryl. Sorry to start your shift early," Chess greeted the young vet. He was of average height with a mop of neat light brown hair and a thin face. He was smiling in his usual easy way, despite the fact that it was not yet 6am.

"Effie," he nodded - knowing the nickname would draw a cringe. "It's not a bother. Its just a stop before I get to the clinic and for you girls I can manage it."

"Aww," Becca beamed up at him. "We're special."

"Only in the best way," Daryl smirked. "She in there?"

"Yep. Aphie's a little on edge, but they both seem healthy. You can check them out now if you want."

Daryl glanced over the door - Aphie's head snapping up quickly as her ears turned back. He chuckled. "I'm the mean man who does her vaccines," he laughed. "You can make me a cup of tea, since you got me out of bed and all, and we can go see what your feed regime for Aphie is before I do a quick check."

Chess nodded, hanging Aphie's halter by the door finally. "You're on. I'll get the diary out."

"I'll go with her," Roo said, motioning absently and following Chess over to the huge sliding doors to the main barn.

Becca turned to Daryl. "Two sugars?"

Anything I've missed that should be on a newborn profile, do tell me. It feels like I've forgotten something...

Nev: Just to mention - Aphie's hypersensitivity is mostly tactile. you can yell at people while standing next to her and she won't bat an eyelid, but her skin is where she's hyperreactive. It can pass down to foals but it's entirely up to you whether you take it

Few hours on and off. Honestly a little rushed to the end because I was so excited to get it up
