I've technically had these two drawn for over a year now, but I always felt like Dark Crystal was missing something. So gave these two a much needed update before I post them. I love how they both turned out! The Dark Crystal's real name is Umbra Helios but the subjects of the Crystallius Kingdom don't know that. No pony really knows that's his true name and the Dark Crystal is just a title that was given to him after he became corrupt.

STORY:
Thousands of years pass. Rulers rise and fall within Bara no Tara and the repeating battle of Nyx and Lux continue every thousand years. The Crystallius kingdom stays relatively low key and do their own thing in the north region. The unicorn family, the Diamonidus line, placed into power by Asteraceae roughly 3000 years prior, continue to rule and watch over the Crystallius kingdom. That also includes the watch over the imprisioned Dark Crystal, which still lays dormant under the glowing crystal castle. The unicorn family has grown in power and have gained a name for themselves. The current king Malachite and queen Beryl rule the kingdom with the usual quiet and peaceful guidance, just as the founder of the kingdom had ruled before she was overthrown. Malachite and Beryl have three children; Kyanite (son), Carisal (daughter), and Lucent (son).

When the Rulers of the Southern kingdom of Bara no Tara- Yu Yin and Yu Yang- come to visit, Lucent and lady Yin take a liking to each other. An unlikely romance blossoms between the two. But a powerful alicorn and a low unicorn could not stay together forever like they would want. A Unicorn doesn't live for a thousand years like an alicorn. As Lucent wondered the castle, he found the secret pathway to under the castle, to the secret chamber that held the Dark Crystal. Lucent had heard of the being, but he was never allow to know where the creature was being held. But now he does know. And the being speaks to him in a friendly manner. it seemed curious by the young prince. Lucent was on edge, but quickly came to enjoy the creature's presence.

Many months go by and Lucent goes to visit the creature in secret. The two talk about many things. The Dark Crystal speaks of when it wasn't trapped in the prison, and Lucent speaks of a beautiful dark alicorn who brought the night. The Dark Crystal took interest of the unicorn's secret lover. One evening when the unicorn prince arrived in a rage, the Dark Crystal uses it's manipulative words to sweet talk Lucent. "I can give you the power you'd need to prove your worth. I've lived within this crystal prison for millennia's. I know a thing about living for eternity." With those sweet words, the young prince broke the chains and the black stone prison. The shadow creature emerging in full strength and consumed the unicorn in blackness. Overtaking his mind and body, both shaping into a desired mortal form. The King and queen knew immediately of the Dark Crystal's breakout and went to stop it. But the creature froze them as black stone statues before they could do anything. The dark king consumed the light in shadows, changing the whole kingdom into his own image. Those who opposed him turned to black stone statues or turned into shadowy minions.

It wasn't long until Yin and Yang heard about the Dark Crystal King Umbra's take over. Yin knew she had to be the one to stop him, just as Nyx stopped him before. As much as Yang didn't want her to go because of her special condition, he had no power to stop the creature of shadow. Even if it pained her to have to fight the one she loved, she knew her duty as the reincarnation of Nyx. Yin arrived to the kingdom and confronted the Dark King, she tried reasoning with him while trying to awaken Lucent from within. But it only got her frozen as a stone statue. Except it doesn't kill the person, it only puts them to sleep. After talking to one another, Nyx broke free from the stone prison as a spirit and fought the Dark King. She didn't have to try very hard, but her spirit form isn't to her full power if she was in her normal physical form. From within the dark mind of the Dark crystal laid a chained and broken Lucent. Nyx spoke to the prince about what he's done. The prince terrified of the dark goddess appearing before him. Nyx told Lucent information Yin had been hiding from him for months now. She's with child and he will be a father. With the help of Lucent, Nyx was able to imprison the Dark Crystal again, but Lucent had to sacrifice himself to become a spirit and trap the Dark Crystal. It broke his heart he won't be able to see his child, but Nyx ensures him he will see them both in the far future. Now as a spirit, he can live forever.

Everyone is broken free from the curse and the kingdom is restored. Nyx returns to Yin and the kingdom mourns the lose of the young prince. But he's remembered as a Spirit of the wind who guides travelers to safety from the stormy blizzard outside the kingdom.
