It is true the deaf dogs are some of the best listeners. Before we owned our 2 current dogs I grew up with a Miniature Pincher. For the last 8 months of his 13 year life he was completely deaf. It was so saddening to see an animal that was family go thorough that. He became very good a "reading lips" and almost always knew what we were asking of him although he could not hear us.

Wow, that is very interesting and I really do appreciate you sharing your story with me! I believe the same as you... and that they are like people as they rely on other means to understand others in their surroundings.
Zoey was born deaf, so it may work a little differently with her, but there are methods that can be used...
and she is extremely clever, and you can always tell that she is making efforts to understand and connect.. she tilts her head to the side and her ears are perked up, as if she does hear, but it's not that-she is using ever other means necessary to engage in what is happening.
She's awesome!
I love your avatar/icon. Actually looks a lot like Zoey.

Sometimes animals are more like family than people We now have two dogs and both a trained with hand signals. Not because they are deaf or may become, but while I was training them I found that it is helpful to add hand signals if say I am talking to another person and need to give them a command and do not want to be rude to the person I`m talking with.
Thank for the compliment! It is a picture of my American Bulldog pitbull mix, Red.

She's so beautiful. I'm deaf in one ear so I can partially understand her difficulties, yet I'm told I'm a brilliant listener so yes, those of us with problems perhaps try harder. I truly hope she gets a loving home quickly!

May! First of all, thank you for your lovely comments and wishes for dear Zoey, but...
also, we have something in common, as that I am also hard of hearing, in both ears, but the left one is worse!
I watch T.V. with the Closed-Caption, and I do best to understand people either in writing or in PERSON when I can SEE their whole face.
I also do know sign language though, too, just in case, I guess, but I learned it before this happened.
I have also thought that because of this, that I do try harder use more of "everything" to "listen" or understand others better.
Thank you for sharing with me.

Aww, what a most lovely comment, thank you mentioning about the title... the titles of my work, mean a lot to me, sometime they readily come to me, and other times I spend time to think of the perfect one.
This one came to me right away.
I really appreciate all you have said here, it means so much,
and most of all you wishes for dear Zoey!
Just got back to dA after 3 weeks, so I am just now seeing this,
and playing the "catch-up" game!

Yes, I have an affinity for white fur! Haha! Next year I may be able to move to my boyfriends and I'm planning to get a cat then, maybe I will find a white cat at a shelter, but if not, I will take any, of course!
When I was working at the shelter here, I felt especially drawn to the cats, which are 'not pretty' at sight, many of them just craved for love so much! (naturally I guess, because people usually don't want the 'ugly' ones... ) My favorite there was an old tom-cat with black for and a white spot on his chest. His jaw was out of place and some of his teeth were showing and of course you could see his age. But he was such a lovely personality! Always, when I was going to clean the litter boxes and got to the floor he would come to me and demanded to get pet! I wasn't able to clean anything before he hadn't got his petting session!
