Description Dedicated to my good friend Sandy
for her BIRTHDAY on June 4th!

Sandy has been such an amazing friend to me, in many ways, and I'm so blessed I have met her on dA!

This is Zoey, at The South Coast Humane Society who is available for adoption, and whose photo will be placed soon in this Saturday's "Pet of the Week" section, in the local newspapers, and will appear in the humane society's petfinder.com and fb pages!

Zoey is an absolutely beautiful white Boxer girl with darling little freckles all over. She is completely deaf, but TRULY "listens" with ALL of her other senses and is extremely so extremely intelligent! Zoey needs a home where someone has the devotion to work with her, but she is very eager to learn, not to mention so playful, kind, and affectionate.

I couldn't get a "smiley" look from her, for photos, but she is honestly a LOVING and happy dog!
[If we could, WE would take this dog... ]

While I never had a deaf dog, I do fully know sign language, and I taught my two previous dogs I first had on my own as an adult, [both now deceased], visual hand commands. It was not very difficult either.

Feature of Sandy's work:

Dear Sandy,
I could never begin to thank you for everything,
but truly you have been such a good friend!
I hope you keep up your talent, and I wish you well
in your life!
Your Friend, Tea

[ NOTE: Thank you, in advance, for any 's I may receive for this image. I am honoured and grateful that anyone would think well enough to it. So thank you from the bottom of my heart . I understand if you don't have time to comment, but thank you for any kind comments, too.
It's important to know this NOW, as I may NOT be able to do individual thank-you's for 's, or in case I cannot respond to each comment, either. Thanks for understanding.
And, if you just came to view, I appreciate that, too.

It is true the deaf dogs are some of the best listeners. Before we owned our 2 current dogs I grew up with a Miniature Pincher. For the last 8 months of his 13 year life he was completely deaf. It was so saddening to see an animal that was family go thorough that. He became very good a "reading lips" and almost always knew what we were asking of him although he could not hear us.

Wow, that is very interesting and I really do appreciate you sharing your story with me! I believe the same as you... and that they are like people as they rely on other means to understand others in their surroundings.

Zoey was born deaf, so it may work a little differently with her, but there are methods that can be used...

and she is extremely clever, and you can always tell that she is making efforts to understand and connect.. she tilts her head to the side and her ears are perked up, as if she does hear, but it's not that-she is using ever other means necessary to engage in what is happening.

She's awesome!

I love your avatar/icon.  Actually looks a lot like Zoey.

Sometimes animals are more like family than people We now have two dogs and both a trained with hand signals. Not because they are deaf or may become, but while I was training them I found that it is helpful to add hand signals if say I am talking to another person and need to give them a command and do not want to be rude to the person I`m talking with.

Thank for the compliment! It is a picture of my American Bulldog pitbull mix, Red.

She's so beautiful.  I'm deaf in one ear so I can partially understand her difficulties, yet I'm told I'm a brilliant listener so yes, those of us with problems perhaps try harder.  I truly hope she gets a loving home quickly!

May! First of all, thank you for your lovely comments and wishes for dear Zoey, but...

also, we have something in common, as that I am also hard of hearing, in both ears, but the left one is worse!

I watch T.V. with the Closed-Caption, and I do best to understand people either in writing or in PERSON when I can SEE their whole face.

I also do know sign language though, too, just in case, I guess, but I learned it before this happened.

I have also thought that because of this, that I do try harder use more of "everything" to "listen" or understand others better.

Thank you for sharing with me.

Firstly, dear Tea, I'm so sorry for my slow reply.  You wrote this to me when I was away on holiday (vacation) and I'm only just now getting back this far in my messages to reply.  Maybe I should have started from the back

I'm so sorry that you have hearing difficulties too.  It can make us appear silly to others when we look the wrong way when they speak, or mishear.  It's perhaps the most hidden of disabilities.  Sometimes I feel like wearing a badge - front and back - saying that I have a hearing problem.  Never mind - it could be worse.

Part of what keeps me from answering my dA messages after a holiday is that I write a report on what we saw and did, and post photos.  If you'd like a look you can see it at mayl.id.au It takes me several days to get that done so then I'm even more behind than the holiday caused

That title..i always love the titles you put, but this one, i don't know, i just found it so moving and fits like a glove with the picture. ^^
I really admire your artwork, cause every picture you take is just so deep, the viewer can see the story behind it, and that is the most important thing
Such a sweet and innocent looking dog, as many people said in the comments, i'd love to adopt her as well if i could, i hope she gets lots of love from her future owners <3

Aww, what a most lovely comment, thank you mentioning about the title... the titles of my work, mean a lot to me, sometime they readily come to me, and other times I spend time to think of the perfect one.

This one came to me right away.

I really appreciate all you have said here, it means so much,

and most of all you wishes for dear Zoey!

No, it's ok if you especially love her white fur, or animals with white fur, in general- sometimes we can't help what are our favourites, but it is especially good that you do love all animal colours, too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LuciaSeriin In reply to TeaPhotography [2013-06-15 13:57:09 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I have an affinity for white fur! Haha! Next year I may be able to move to my boyfriends and I'm planning to get a cat then, maybe I will find a white cat at a shelter, but if not, I will take any, of course!

When I was working at the shelter here, I felt especially drawn to the cats, which are 'not pretty' at sight, many of them just craved for love so much! (naturally I guess, because people usually don't want the 'ugly' ones... ) My favorite there was an old tom-cat with black for and a white spot on his chest. His jaw was out of place and some of his teeth were showing and of course you could see his age. But he was such a lovely personality! Always, when I was going to clean the litter boxes and got to the floor he would come to me and demanded to get pet! I wasn't able to clean anything before he hadn't got his petting session!

TeaPhotography In reply to LuciaSeriin [2013-06-18 00:18:04 +0000 UTC]

All white cats are the rarest to find at shelters, but it is not impossible!

I hope you find the cat that is right fro you when the time comes!

You are right, a lot of times cats at the shelters are not necessarily pretty, because they are recovering from illnesses and starvation, and definitely craving love.

But they make the most beautiful pets in the long-run.

Well, wow, thanks for sharing with me your experiences! I used to start out with cleaning boxes and enclosures when I first began volunteering... and then I did cat grooming and nail trimming, and now the photography for the paper. Anything, any of us does, is a big help.
