do you have to sow or you can just glue it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TearsOfFallenAngels In reply to moved-to-ENGL4ND [2013-07-14 17:07:17 +0000 UTC]

you can just glue it, but it is recommended that you sew it as well. Your suit will last longer and look cleaner if you do.

ok but I tried sowing once and the seam showed

try taking a slicker brush (like the ones used on dogs) and brush the fur that is caught in the seam out. it happens to me too and after a good brush you can't see the seam anymore.

very useful tutorial! but I have one question... for the head part, is sewing the pieces together necessary if they will be glued to the foam anyway?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TearsOfFallenAngels In reply to Oomles [2012-05-26 21:23:12 +0000 UTC]

No not necessary.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Oomles In reply to TearsOfFallenAngels [2012-05-26 22:05:08 +0000 UTC]

what are the benefits to sewing the pieces together then? o:>

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TearsOfFallenAngels In reply to Oomles [2012-05-26 22:19:57 +0000 UTC]

Sewing fur? It makes the seams look much more smooth and put together, it helps when shaving down the face, and keeps the foam from showing if a glued seam were to come undone. Over all i think it is more beneficial to sew the fur together than not to.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TearsOfFallenAngels In reply to AngleClaw [2011-11-08 15:41:58 +0000 UTC]

You can make it that way. There are many different ways you can go about making a head. I would be careful with paper mΓ’chΓ© because it might break or warp easy.

I've got a question;
Is it possible to breath, talk and see anything while wearing the head made in your way? Before I start I need to know

TearsOfFallenAngels In reply to Frozen-Tiger [2011-09-30 21:42:48 +0000 UTC]

Umm lol yes. XD without being able to do those why would you make one? Lol

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Frozen-Tiger In reply to TearsOfFallenAngels [2011-10-01 10:23:03 +0000 UTC]

Lol right I just wonder where to make holes for my eyes. Next to mask's ones? Or see through them? I dont have experience with that stuff

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TearsOfFallenAngels In reply to Frozen-Tiger [2011-10-01 15:04:41 +0000 UTC]

Ah! Are you using resin eyes for your mask? If you are you want to make your eye holes just below them. It's called tearduct vision. If your making regular plastic bowl style eyes you can cut a hole and put mesh over the hole so you can see right through those.

I really loved reading all your parts to this tutorial and it seems very helpful! :3
I want to make a fursuit head someday soon but all these steps seem very overwhelming. D: Like the taping patterns.

But overall how much do you think this ended up costing you to make?
There's a sale on some really nice realistic coyote fur at the fabric store here but it's still pretty expensive, so that's why I'm curious. 3:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TearsOfFallenAngels In reply to Spawtz [2011-01-07 22:27:18 +0000 UTC]

Yeah taping and all the steps really arent to bad, i just tried to word it out enough so it was clear to whomever was using it. Taping is one of the easiest steps.

Over all the cost... hmmm well it can vary quite a bit, like the quality of the fur can make it more or less expensive. That is usually the biggest expense. If you dont have the basic materials to make it, like a glue gun it can be more. My average cost for one is anywhere between 60-100 i would say. that is only for the head, if you are making more then hehe the price is gonna go up.
Hope that all helped ya!

Aah I'm so sorry for the late reply! (I'm so bad at replying back to people! >_<)

I probably need to read it again but how does the tape stick to the foam do you hot glue it?

Also how much do you figure you used for foam and the base colour? One yard, maybe half a yard?
Thanks! :3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TearsOfFallenAngels In reply to Spawtz [2011-01-27 02:00:27 +0000 UTC]

Its okay. xD

No the tape just sticks on as you start to layer it iup. no hot gluing needed.

I always buy a yard of foam, i normally dont use it all but its there incase i want changes.

They were actually very helpful. I'm very excited begin! :3

Yeah I typically do that whenever I buy fabric. A yard is usually more than plenty.
