Description This is a touched up version of the old Silmeria drawing I made some time ago. What do you think? I think I have learned a few things since making the old one, especially in the backgrounds department The problem is, me and colouring... *sigh* I think I must be mentally colourblind or something.

Remember: constructive criticism = !!!

Ah, and here is the story of Silmeria, in case you forgot to read it the last time :

Deviants, meet Silmeria, the terror of the cloudy Gandvik skies. She once served in the army of a country far away, but after an affair with a fighter aircraft that served the enemy's side, she was commanded to leave both the army and her home country.

After travelling across half a continent, she settled down in the attic of a deserted barn just outside a quiet village not very far from Gandvik, and there she also laid her two eggs. However, the presence of this death machine who could slice a human in half by merely waving one of her rotor blades was not approved of by the people in the village, and they made many attempts at convincing her to leave. When they realised that the reason she never left was that she had eggs to care for, they thought it wise to crush the eggs... which was, as it turned out, not very wise. Silmeria finally left the village, but only after having mowed down every building and any living being that happened to be in her way.

Devastated by the sorrow of losing her children, she still managed to find her way to Gandvik, where she has been living since. She hides at day and scouts the city at night, searching for food or fuel. She has no faith left in humanity, a species that apparently, to her, do little else than hate, murder and wage war.

The brushes used in this work (mainly for the background) were made by: ~KeyMoon , *Sunira , *redheadstock , ~Horhew , ~ewark , and ~SiR-FrAggZaLoTt

Wow, that is really cool. Sort of an organic sentient machine! It reminds me of Zoids, only much more intricate and intelligent. Very creative! I feel sorry for her, losing her eggs like that. The dumb people could have just MOVED them, for crying out loud.
I like the coloring! Although I know what you mean about feeling mentally colorblind; I'm not at all good at coloring because I can't imagine just how the picture should look. XP But this looks fantastic! You did an excellent job. ^^ And I really like how you explained the story behind the creature; I love pictures that have history in them, they're so much more fun for the imagination. Great job!

thank you so much! the story is half of the artwork, so i really apprecate it when people take the time to read it!

it was interesting to hear your thoughts, thank you!

Aw, you're welcome! ^^
And I totally agree, which is why I always read the Notes. It's a major bonus if the person has a story attached or makes a funny comment, plus I know how irritating it is if someone doesn't read the comments and then asks a stupid question that was answered already, haha!

The only thing "constructive" I could point out is that with such light and lightning, she should probably have more contrasting shadow/light balance. Or not =]

The concept, pose and perspective are amazing!

The metallic look worked out OK, but a way better touch are the clouds being reflected in the canopy (if that's what you call it <_<. It does seem to me like the rotor blades and the bits bordering the canopy should reflect in it, too, though.

Unfortunately I can't help much with metal effects, just one point: The highlights should not continue seamlessly from one plane to an adjacent plane with a different angle (in reference to the one on the underside of the foreshortened rotor blade, which continues right onto the small "head" side of the blade).

teblad In reply to ankewehner [2008-08-14 20:34:05 +0000 UTC]

you are right about the reflection in the canopy. i like.. didn't even think of the rotor blades and the other things...

and you are also right about the highlights. i must have missed that

thank you so much for pointing this out to me. i am never so blind as when i am looking at my own drawings...

Now that's imagination at it's best, your art is spectacular as well. The whole concept is very Ghibli-esque.

Whoah...machine creatures. That gets 5 stars just for the creativity. The complex design and awsome coloring (light sourse, shading, and everything else) gets another 5. And the cool story adds the finishing touch! I love it

yes, i've seen your organ and folding machine guys too ^^ all very cool! That gives me an idea of maybe doing my favorite fighter jet like that too, but i'm very bad at drawing machinery >.o

ok, i asked just in case ^^

i support more anthro-objects art! be sure to know a little about the machine you want to anthro-ize (the more you know about intricate little details, the better), have a few reference pictures at hand, and you are ready to start drawing! ^^

I had a test done and I'm color deficiant, which means I'm almost colorblind. I have awesome night vision though! Color theory is annoying anyways.

i see. and i agree about colour theory XD.

Death-Pony7 In reply to teblad [2008-07-07 23:49:07 +0000 UTC]

Yay! The only thing that really matters about colour theory is complementary colours, I never use any other theory techiniques. Basically, if it looks good, it works.

How did you get the clouds and lightning? It's a great touch. ^^

i love ALL comments, i just wanted to emphasise to people that IF they have something negative to say, they shouldn't hesitate

as for the clouds and the lightning, they were made with PS brushes found here on dA... OOOPS, i forgot to include all the brushes artists in the description! *goes to correct that right away*
