Description A friend of mine is currently revising her novel, and commissioned me to paint a picture of the characters.

I'm doing a lot of experimentation with this one - keeping the linework instead of blending it or painting it in, trying to go for a more Impressionistic painting style, with unblended splotches of multiple colors coming together to give an overall impression of one color, and trying to get some dramatic side and back-lighting into the scene.

It's more-or-less successful: I really like Tamalat's coloring (the woman in front) and how the light plays on her skin. I was taking a bit of direction from Tim Bradstreet's style, with how he leaves the linework untouched and colors beneath it, which I am not completely convinced I like. But I think it's a personal-taste thing instead of an I-didn't-get-it-right thing.

P.S. Brio is not a ninja. He's a magistrate.

Painted in Photoshop, linework in MangaStudio.

I didn't even know you did stuff like this.

What's a magistrate? He looks like he's Arab.

The style? Or commissions?

Magistrate: [link]

In the novel, he goes veiled.

Both.

Ohh, okay, thanks.

Is that novel on sale by any chance?

Not so far - she's just finished the first draft, and then it needs to be edited and then submitted to publishers. So it'll be a while.

Aww, darn. It seems cool, I like to read it.
I like how this piece turned out, it doesn't look bad at all!
I espcailly like the way her skin shines in the light.

Nifty style experimentation! I'm never brave enough to try, though I resolve to! I'm not entirely sure I like the style, though it's also a personal thing rather than a you-didn't-get-it-right.

Love the detail in her hair! The colour technique worked well to my eyes - I didn't realize how it had been done until I read the notes and took a closer look.

This makes me wonder if they're having a secret meeting to plot! What are they really doing in this scene?
