THEY BROKE UP, GUYS. Another Astral Arcana picture, very quick pencil/ink job, then equally quick PS colors. About the millionth time I've drawn these guys, and probably not the last "being sad after breaking up" picture.
Characters are Farael and Rian again.

I had a lot of fun drawing the really loose body language with this, I almost never get this "gestural" with my drawings, but it was a nice way to do it for this one.

Thanks! That's really sweet to say. Looking back, I never intended to work this to finish, but I just really liked the effect of the lines and the simplicity of it. I don't think I'll be able to achieve that kind of spontaneity again for a while, but I really do love this one, so I think it's worth it

You're welcome! It's funny how sometimes the "fling" pictures (if you will), turn out the best, and the more you work them up, the more they lose their appeal. I guess that it's something to do with the "movement" and emotion of the original sketch and sometimes, it's hard to bring to the finished piece.

That's exactly it! There's a certain appeal to the worked-up ones too, of course, but it was SO hard for me to learn when to stop and leave it. I think I'm getting a little better, but still not perfect

Oh, so many things... an evil undead cyborg pirate captain named Bloody Robert Kimball opened a black hole over Boston and released a stillborn godling that Trean had to pursue inside the black hole to kill, and she never came out.
Farael, being a dutiful son, decided to avenge her and in doing so had to break a former member of Bloody Robert's crew out of imperial navy jail, thus putting Farael and Rian on the Empire's blacklist.
After killing off Bloody Robert, Farael wanted to regain his standing and rank with the navy and atone for blatantly being a criminal. Rian wanted to go back with him, but he wouldn't let her because they'd lock her up for being a repeat offender, and he told her that "some birds, once caged, never sing as sweetly". Hence the title.
They still love each other, but circumstances forced them apart. I refuse to let them be over, though!! They're so cute, and I'm totally convinced they're in TWOO WUV. Besides, nobody dumps the Ruby Mockingbird THAT easily!
