Yay! It's my favorite Martian.
I think I just about killed myself doing this line work. I really like Pirossa as a character, but he's well-nigh impossible to draw without reference, especially if you add in that EVIL mask designed by ~Arthulin . It's not that it isn't a cool design; it's just that it's such... a butt... to draw. But there it is! The first time I've actually drawn Pirossa's mask. He actually wears it almost all the time, but as I said, I'm lazy and can't be bothered to reference it constantly. Plus, I'm sure it doesn't feel that great to kiss. Soooo as such, it makes very rare appearances in my pictures.

Yeah... I've been so busy with job , family and unfortunately a lot of problems ;___;
and after my doggie died...I'm victim of a bad art block... in the little free time I have I'd love drawing something...but I just can't come up with anything good
And..on the 22 I'll leave for New York...until the 1st of January.. so *LockeLamora will take care of the contest until I'll be back =^_^=

He's such a detailed character! *-* I love his design, the mask is awesome too, masks can be painful to draw sometimes, specially those half masks that people use sometimes on costume parties! XD

Ooohh, this is one of my favourites from the series! *_* I really loved his design, his tattoos are so unique and different. I usually see more tribal-looking designs, which I also love, but I love the swirly designs, it's like an art nouveau style tattoo.

Amazing, i can see how this can be frustrating to draw, i have a few characters who get little love because they're so damn hard to get all the fine details done without having to find their reference.
The markings are amazing as is the mask O3O

Oh, I know!! Whenever I draw this guy here, doing the coloring is hard too--my fiance says "Oh, how hard it is to color somebody ALL ONE COLOR!" but really, they're different shades, and it's HARD to find a shade of yellow that doesn't clash with that lapis blue without making your eyes bleed. This picture took more post-fill color tweaking than any other I've done for a WHILE.

His concept is really interesting. Even if they were a pain to draw the mask and the tattoos are nice details and really help to give a since of his "martian culture". The whole gold martian concept makes me think of Ray Bradbury's Martian chronicles. I like.

Yes, it's heavily inspired by that (I haven't read it, but ~Arthulin has, and a lot of the Gold Martian concept was inspired by the concept art by Jeff Carlisle [link] who's just fantastic).

Hehe! I'm glad you like him. He doesn't have nearly as many fans as my other guys (*cough*DALTON*cough*), so when I DO get a wild hare to draw him I need recognition, damn it! That's not easy, man!
All Martians... well, there are three kinds: Khedeph (Gold), Nelophi (Black), and Thri'kreen (Red). The black Martians are a bit short and can be attractive, but they don't have noses and their hair is like... short tentacles. The Thri'kreen are basically giant red praying mantises, so that's a no. But the Khedeph do tend to be quite attractive in the way that elves are quite attractive: they're all tall, very well-shaped (either slim or muscular), and gold-skinned. Plus, they've got that third eye thing (that's the forehead gem, it's actually a source of psychic energy).
And that's more than you ever wanted or needed to know about the Martians in Astral Arcana. -__- (Personally, I want my own Khedeph. He can go in my harem next to all the other fantasy guys.

Oh god... I just asked Alan about this, since I was curious too, and he says: "Yes, I think he does have a brother, but they're very different. Pirossa still holds a grudge against his brother for arresting him and throwing him into prison on the Martian polar ice cap." So... you can take that as you will, I guess.
And as to the skin, yes, it is golden. The hair is a very close shade, but slightly more obviously gold-colored.

It's VERY hard. I keep telling Alan that Pirossa is both a bitch to draw AND to color, because it's incredibly difficult to put him in a shade of yellow with those lapis-colored accents that doesn't MAKE YOUR EYES BLEED. He's tricky, so I was quite glad you signed on to take him. I don't think I'll ever get any other drawings of him unless I actually commission them, but really, I couldn't even ask people for that kind of masochism.
And villain brothers... I know, I'm quite intrigued by this story, but alas, I don't think Alan's interested in developing that too much. I just happened to ask him and it was one of those "surprise! There's a story there!" moments. I might need to take this ball and run with it on my own.

The mask is totally an Alan creation, and I loved the idea; it's articulated to mirror facial expressions. The mouth and eyes spin around. I loved the design, but again, like the tattoos, it's just a pain to draw, especially as small as I usually work.
