My entry for Anthro Challenge, with the theme of "star." BIG thanks to ^Katmomma for letting me enter this a little bit past the submission date. I really appreciate it!

I suppose it's a literal interpretation of the theme, but it's an excuse for me to do space themed anthro art. This was quite challenging for me, lighting and composition-wise mainly. For astronomy nerds, yeah Alpha Centauri is a binary star system. I just chose to hide Centauri B from this picture.

I suppose I should give you guys a little story behind this picture. It is the year 2852, and the fox you see here is a worker on one of the moons orbiting the planet Kleitos, a rocky planet with two moons. Kleitos is 1.6 earth masses, and both moons are somewhat larger than Earth's moon. What has attracted this worker (among many more) is the substance you see covering the moon, which they nicknamed Stellar Snow. It's not snow exactly, it's melting point is 341ΒΊC and the moon's temperature is rather pleasant. However when melted and cooled, it forms a substance like metal, however 15x stronger than titanium. It's currently being used for space ships to protect against attacks and stellar debris.

Yeah, I'm a nerd. But I like stories behind sci-fi related art.

This isn't Alpha Centauri. Where's CEO Nwabudike Morgan?!

(This is a bit of an obscure reference, I know.)

This is so great! I don't know why I didn't look at it before!!! You are such a talented artist! Playing around with space and sci-fi is FUN, 'cause you can come up with WORLDS of ideas! Races, planets, ships you name it!

So did you come up with this yourself, plot and all?

Hey, nerds and geeks are okay. I mean, what's wrong with being smart? I'm a nerd/geek myself, so next time you admit that you are a nerd, admit with pride, not with a humble nervousness.

But yeah, I too love the stories behind sci-fi related art...in fact, I'm trying to write a few sci-fi stories myself. And though this is a wonderful-looking picture, I must ask you, if the planet Stellar Snow is so freakishly harsh, why isn't that fox-man wearing some kind of environment suit? Unless, of course, he's wearing some kind of invisible force-field generator in place of an environment suit, similar to the ones in "Deep Six."

Ooooh, random thought: maybe this Stellar Snow stuff is what Martin's sword is made from! Y'know, a piece of debris crashed into the moon, the friction heat of the collision being so great as to melt some of the snow. This melted snow formed chunks, some of which floated into space. One of the chunks eventually made its way to earth, where it fell to land on the beach where a hare named Lupin found it . . .

Hehe, I have no clue how that thought popped into my head, but whatever. XP

WONDERFUL job!

is there atmosphere on that moon?
But 15X stronger than titanium? i can see the appeal. Is the whole Stellar snow mining process individual miners claiming areas and mining it, or is it large scale and that guy is like a prospector?

But either way, i like this. its got a real feel of originality and Sci-Fi feeling.
