There are 3 variants of a correct spelling of Ryu, as far as I heard. One is Ryuu, the other one is Ryu(with a "-" above "u") and, to make it easier, the "-" can be omitted from "u", as in Ryu. That's what I heard at least... not sure if it's correct. Still, there are 2 Ryus (characters named Ryu) without a dash, or a second "u" - Breath of Fire and Street Fighter - to back this theory up.
And oh, don't forget I'm a noob when it comes to drawing dragons The pose I aimed for is a dragon flying out of the picture. It's really hard X_X I made so many sketches, and this is the best pose I could do, unfortunately... Maybe I should redraw it. I really want this to be great, so I'll probably redraw this someday. Do you have any pics of dragons flying out of the picture, which I could use as a reference? This is done without reference
And thanks a lot for your comment, it's a huuuuuge help!!!

Can be spelt Ryuu or Ryu with a - over the u. The - over the u is the second u as all it means is a longer sound. Of course tbh, you're all wrong!
It's actually spelt: γγ
γ
And Densetsu Shiroi Ryu: γ§γγγ€γγγγγγγ
γ
So basically, if you're typing Japanese into the computer, type Ryuu, otherwise stick with Ryu or I'll strangle you for making me change all the Ryus in my novel so far.

You said this:
Densetsu Shiroi Ryu: γ§γγγ€γγγγγγγ
γ
Is this kanji or hiragana? If it's katakana, well... something looks wrong.

Hiragana. As Densetsu Shiroi Ryu isn't meant to be English or a borrowed from another language right? Like Computerγ-γγ³γ³γγΌγΏγΌ. So since it isn't English, it's in Hiragana.

Lol don't worry, the old Ryu stays Ryu. He'll (maybe) be called Ryuu in "The End" but Ryu is still Ryu.

Hey, wait a sec. Why is "Spirit Ryu", "Ryu Senshi" etc. spelt with "Ryu"?

I mentioned 4Kids. I have no idea, but I don't entirely trust the competence of 4Kids' translators. Remember "Buster Rancher?"

Ah, yeah. Btw you know what's funny? There's a singer with the nickname Ryu. No second u, no -. He's from the group Fort Minor. (sigh) Probably "Ryu" is a wrong spelling for "dragon" but I'll stick to it for now. I like it. And also, when English words, or names, are used in English, they would look odd if double letters, or dashes, would be used. Imagine "Yu-sei Fudo-" or "Yuusei Fudou" being written all over the internet in English sentences. "Yusei Fudo" seems the most acceptable to me.
And Buster Rancher? Is that the old-skool equip card for monsters of 1000 or less?

Well yes, the name Yusei was not altered. But Aki was X_X Aki Izayoi soudns much better than Akiza Izinski.
Ah, it's ok.
And yeah, I thought it was odd... but I didn't know it was supposed to be "launcher".

Omfg... They turned Lich into Richie?! Gaaaawd! I really hate them for these mistakes... It's like they didn't even try to find out what is the true meaning of the Japanese names.

Well, they do use "Oh" for "O-" (king), like Rai-Oh, Fushioh (not sure about this one) etc, and I kinda don't like the "Oh" transcription, because it sounds like "Oh, what a day".

It's funny how sad it is... Personally, I'd use "O-" (O with dash) for "king" if it has to be romanized. But for some reason there are no dashes or the prolonging "u"s in the card names.

TheLastHetaira In reply to TeraMaster [2009-08-02 22:19:40 +0000 UTC]
Prolonging "u" wouldn't be bad at all. But eh...It's the same "oh" as in "Yu-Gi-Oh!," so what would you expect?

TeraMaster In reply to TheLastHetaira [2009-08-03 13:18:07 +0000 UTC]
Exactly. It's sad that I'm being made fun of because I like an anime which is pronounced You Ghee Oh! (accent on each part) Damn you 4kids! In Japanese, it's pronounced like one word, and here... it's stupid.

Hvala puno ^^ I potrudicu se najvise sto mogu da ucinim ovu sliku sto boljom moguce. Treba mi "inking" za ovu sliku, bez "scales" (ljuske, valjda) kako bi se mogla fino uraditi u Photoshopu. Mada mozda i ne bude trebalo, takodje planiram da crtam odmah preko ovog linearta, dakle da se lineart ne vidi na finalnom rezultatu.
