Description I started this pic with the goal of this being my best pic ever. It will have the most details, it will take weeks to finish (if not months), and I really wanna make an excellent pic in Photoshop with this.

Oh, and MasterOfRa, this is the one I was talking about.

P.S. According to some site, dragon is not spelled "Ryu" but "Ryuu", so I renamed the dragon.

Small thing: 'Ryuu' should be spelled with 2 'u's.

There is indeed a lot of detail in this, but I wonder if you couldn't make the pose a bit more...striking, perhaps? It looks like you were aiming for that, but it also feels like you didn't quite succeed based on the angle of the neck and head (strikes usually look more focused, to say the least) and the way that the paw, almost like a cat's in its position, is just...tentatively prepared to lash out. The two positions together seem mismatched.

On the plus side, I love the wings and all the little tiny details, such as the scales and spikes. 3-clawed wings FTW!

There are 3 variants of a correct spelling of Ryu, as far as I heard. One is Ryuu, the other one is Ryu(with a "-" above "u") and, to make it easier, the "-" can be omitted from "u", as in Ryu. That's what I heard at least... not sure if it's correct. Still, there are 2 Ryus (characters named Ryu) without a dash, or a second "u" - Breath of Fire and Street Fighter - to back this theory up.

And oh, don't forget I'm a noob when it comes to drawing dragons The pose I aimed for is a dragon flying out of the picture. It's really hard X_X I made so many sketches, and this is the best pose I could do, unfortunately... Maybe I should redraw it. I really want this to be great, so I'll probably redraw this someday. Do you have any pics of dragons flying out of the picture, which I could use as a reference? This is done without reference

And thanks a lot for your comment, it's a huuuuuge help!!!

Can be spelt Ryuu or Ryu with a - over the u. The - over the u is the second u as all it means is a longer sound. Of course tbh, you're all wrong!

It's actually spelt: γ‚Šγ‚…γ†

And Densetsu Shiroi Ryu: γ§γ‚“γ›γ€γ€€γ—γ‚γ„γ€€γ‚Šγ‚…γ†

So basically, if you're typing Japanese into the computer, type Ryuu, otherwise stick with Ryu or I'll strangle you for making me change all the Ryus in my novel so far.

You said this:
Densetsu Shiroi Ryu: γ§γ‚“γ›γ€γ€€γ—γ‚γ„γ€€γ‚Šγ‚…γ†

Is this kanji or hiragana? If it's katakana, well... something looks wrong.

AozuAkazu In reply to TeraMaster [2009-08-04 07:27:35 +0000 UTC]

Hiragana. As Densetsu Shiroi Ryu isn't meant to be English or a borrowed from another language right? Like Computerγ€€- コンプーター. So since it isn't English, it's in Hiragana.

Lol don't worry, the old Ryu stays Ryu. He'll (maybe) be called Ryuu in "The End" but Ryu is still Ryu.

Huh. And let's not forget that 4Kids does it all the time...

It really doesn't look that way to me, though. "Ryu" spelled without emphasis on the 'u' means 'gold' ([link] ) while 'ryuu' is the one that means 'dragon' ([link] ).

More likely than not, the translators were unable/unwilling to put in the long mark. I Wiki'd Street Fighter's Ryu, and his name (in Japanese) does indeed have a long 'u':[link] ). I dunno about the Breath of Fire one, but it seems to be quite a common Romanization error. 'Ryu' and 'ryuu' have very different meanings, at the very least according to the handy online kanji site up there.

Actually, I didn't know you were a newbie; your other dragons look just fine to me. Dragon flying out of the picture, eh? I'll see what I can dig up. There are probably some good ones right here on DA!

Hah, you're welcome!

If you were, a whole lotta other people are, too. I think it's just one of those errs that slipped into common use.

Hey, wait a sec. Why is "Spirit Ryu", "Ryu Senshi" etc. spelt with "Ryu"?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheLastHetaira In reply to TeraMaster [2009-08-01 06:59:40 +0000 UTC]

I mentioned 4Kids. I have no idea, but I don't entirely trust the competence of 4Kids' translators. Remember "Buster Rancher?"

TeraMaster In reply to TheLastHetaira [2009-08-01 07:08:45 +0000 UTC]

Ah, yeah. Btw you know what's funny? There's a singer with the nickname Ryu. No second u, no -. He's from the group Fort Minor. (sigh) Probably "Ryu" is a wrong spelling for "dragon" but I'll stick to it for now. I like it. And also, when English words, or names, are used in English, they would look odd if double letters, or dashes, would be used. Imagine "Yu-sei Fudo-" or "Yuusei Fudou" being written all over the internet in English sentences. "Yusei Fudo" seems the most acceptable to me.

And Buster Rancher? Is that the old-skool equip card for monsters of 1000 or less?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheLastHetaira In reply to TeraMaster [2009-08-01 17:43:26 +0000 UTC]

There are ways to do it with accents, but they strike me as being kinda hard to use unless your comp's well-arranged for it. Also, did 4Kids seriously keep YΓ»sei's name? (Not that I watch any of their stuff anymore regardless...)

Maybe I'm just nitpicky because English, unlike Latin and Japanese, doesn't place as much distinction on long vowels (there's the "ryuu" example above, but in Latin, a long vowel can change the function of a 1st or 4th declension noun in a sentence).

Yeah. It was, quite obviously, supposed to be "Buster Launcher."

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TeraMaster In reply to TheLastHetaira [2009-08-01 21:23:26 +0000 UTC]

Well yes, the name Yusei was not altered. But Aki was X_X Aki Izayoi soudns much better than Akiza Izinski.

Ah, it's ok.

And yeah, I thought it was odd... but I didn't know it was supposed to be "launcher".

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheLastHetaira In reply to TeraMaster [2009-08-01 21:48:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I heard about that one, too.

What would it be? There's another one..."Fusioh Richie?" Totally a bad Romanization. Utterly and entirely. No undead king should ever be named Richie, even by accident.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TeraMaster In reply to TheLastHetaira [2009-08-01 21:58:07 +0000 UTC]

Omfg... They turned Lich into Richie?! Gaaaawd! I really hate them for these mistakes... It's like they didn't even try to find out what is the true meaning of the Japanese names.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheLastHetaira In reply to TeraMaster [2009-08-01 22:09:53 +0000 UTC]

[link] And then thousands of otaku named 'Richie' simultaneously tried to raise the dead.

Also, my bad; I thought they even spelled "Fushioh" wrong. At least they got that, but really...Translate much?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TeraMaster In reply to TheLastHetaira [2009-08-02 20:01:56 +0000 UTC]

Well, they do use "Oh" for "O-" (king), like Rai-Oh, Fushioh (not sure about this one) etc, and I kinda don't like the "Oh" transcription, because it sounds like "Oh, what a day".

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheLastHetaira In reply to TeraMaster [2009-08-02 20:21:27 +0000 UTC]

LOL. This is true. "Ou" sounds better, but at least they aren't using "ow," which I've also seen.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TeraMaster In reply to TheLastHetaira [2009-08-02 21:38:41 +0000 UTC]

It's funny how sad it is... Personally, I'd use "O-" (O with dash) for "king" if it has to be romanized. But for some reason there are no dashes or the prolonging "u"s in the card names.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheLastHetaira In reply to TeraMaster [2009-08-02 22:19:40 +0000 UTC]

Prolonging "u" wouldn't be bad at all. But eh...It's the same "oh" as in "Yu-Gi-Oh!," so what would you expect?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TeraMaster In reply to TheLastHetaira [2009-08-03 13:18:07 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. It's sad that I'm being made fun of because I like an anime which is pronounced You Ghee Oh! (accent on each part) Damn you 4kids! In Japanese, it's pronounced like one word, and here... it's stupid.

They're the ones who added the hyphens. Although I think the JP has like...Stars between each kanji. That would still be cooler.

Hvala puno ^^ I potrudicu se najvise sto mogu da ucinim ovu sliku sto boljom moguce. Treba mi "inking" za ovu sliku, bez "scales" (ljuske, valjda) kako bi se mogla fino uraditi u Photoshopu. Mada mozda i ne bude trebalo, takodje planiram da crtam odmah preko ovog linearta, dakle da se lineart ne vidi na finalnom rezultatu.
