Description

Here's my concept for Mega Xatu. This is the last of my meme-able super tall variations, at least for now. Now Alolan Exeggutor (and Mega Alolan Exeggutor ) has competition from 3 new friends; Mega Xatu, Mega Drifblim and Mega Aurorus . The idea was that they were so tall after mega evolving that I had to change the size of my standard background image. Anyway, Xatu has always been a bit of an odd duck –or bird, so its mega evolution can be just as weird! I wanted to take inspiration from Xatu’s lore, so I focused on the fact that it’s known for standing motionless all day watching the sky and apparently receiving visions of the past and future. I also worked off of Xatu’s South/Native American inspired design and those cultures, and ultimately decided to go full totem pole with the concept!

Details
When Mega Xatu transforms it becomes the ideal shape to act as a receiver and enhance its psychic powers. In order to maintain and receive an uninterrupted signal it rarely moves from its stationary position. It no longer needs to move as it can detect and control everything around it with its mysterious powers. This extends to battles, where Mega Xatu remains immobile but can launch a range of super fast offensive and defensive moves from any of its faces. However, when it does require a visual target or use of certain moves, it can rotate its individual sections for a 360 degree view and attack. All of this means that despite its large surface area, Mega Xatu rarely takes direct blows. Mega Xatu's true power activates in psychically charged areas. In such places it is able to receive enough psychic energy that it can maintain a constant view of the near future and perfectly predict its opponent's movements, allowing it to always be a step ahead and react with incredible speed. After losing its Flying-type due to its size, Ground-type attacks are a good option for disrupting Mega Xatu's rhythm but Dark-type Pokémon are highly recommended for combatting this tower of terror.
